Acorns Children's Hospice is looking for a Children's Palliative Staff Nurse to join our Birmingham Hospice. Our Staff Nurses are responsible for the assessment of care needs and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based programmes of care for life-limited and end‑of‑life children and young people who have a range of complex health needs. Main duties of the job Be responsible forthe assessment, development and evaluation of nursing care for children and young people with complex health needs including life‑limiting and life‑threatening conditions and their families.

Use your clinical skills including (but not limited to) caring for children who require long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suction, syringe drivers and enteral feeds. These skills will be gained by completing competency‑based training. Deliver evidence‑based end‑of‑life and symptom management and after‑death care.

Promote communication with the children and young people, encouraging them to express their wishes and concerns to their best ability (this may include non‑verbal, electronic or alternative communication methods). Provide health education information to the child and family, to promote a healthy lifestyle and where appropriate address public health issues. About the role Acorns provides care for babies, children and young people who have life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions.

Our Staff Nurses are part of a supportive, multi‑disciplinary team delivering care packages that are tailored to each child’s individual holistic needs – and we’re structured so that you’ll simply ‘have the time to care’. As Children’s Palliative Staff Nurse, you will work in a purpose‑built hospice with individually decorated rooms overlooking our gardens. We try to make it as welcoming and friendly as possible – a homely environment for the children, young people and their families.

We’re open every day of the year and are fully responsive to the needs of our children and young people, so we will ask for some flexibility as there will be day and night shifts. About you Evidence of ongoing CPD relevant to the role. Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care.

Experience of working with children with complex health needs. Tracheostomy care and/or long‑term ventilation needs (or willingness to undertake competency training). Oxygen therapy, suction, enteral feeds etc.

Catheterisation (or willingness to undertake competency training). What we offer 37.5 hours per week (part time hours will be considered). Based in our Birmingham Hospice (B29 6HZ).

Candidates will also be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, provide references and evidence of immunisation. Qualifications Registered Nurse. Mentor and Assessing Training (or be willing to undertake).

Experience Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care, identifying, recording and reporting safeguarding concerns for both children and adults. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. £30,600 to £40,799 a year plus additional enhancements for nights and weekends. #J-18808-Ljbffr
