Job Description
Jackson James have partnered with packaging manufacturing business who are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer / Packaging Engineer to drive innovation within their Thermoformed Packaging division. In this role, you’ll lead the development, optimization, and commercialization of thermoplastic materials and processes, supporting sustainable packaging solutions for consumer markets. The title will be determined depending on the individuals experience. Responsibilities: Act as a subject matter expert in plastic materials processing for consumer packaging, with particular emphasis on portion-control packaging Provide technical guidance and recommendations on manufacturing equipment to support both current operations and future expansion. Meet internal and external customer requirements by designing and developing packaging solutions within a manufacturing setting. Lead the technical implementation of projects, working closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to resolve complex challenges and enhance product performance efficiently and cost-effectively. Develop innovative concepts aligned with the R&D product and technology roadmap. Plan and oversee pilot runs, production processes, and filling/packaging trials. Travel to suppliers, customers, and innovation partners, as well as attend conferences, trade shows, and training sessions.
Requirements: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Plastics, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science 5+ years of experience in plastics processing (extrusion and thermoforming required) Strong working knowledge of PET, PP, HIPS, and PE; food packaging experience preferred Hands-on, results-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills This is a highly visible, impactful opportunity for a driven technical leader ready to advance sustainable packaging innovation.
