Job Description
Position Title Operations Manager Reports to Plant Manager Job Summary Daily supervision of the LaPorte site production units resulting in safe and efficient operation, while producing a quality product, in a timely cost‑efficient manner. Responsibilities Operation of assigned production units in compliance with established policies, procedures, permits and regulatory requirements Meeting or exceeding performance standards of assigned production units including production rate, on‑stream time, and raw material efficiency Meeting or exceeding quality specifications for manufactured products Prioritization and resolution of manufacturing difficulties (process or mechanical) Continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability and responsiveness to the customer Control of working capital and the promotion of inventory control principles Maintaining records pertinent to unit operations, preparing regular performance reports, communicating throughout the organization, and convening regular meetings with operating personnel Training of assigned personnel and support of these requirements for outside contractors Control of finished goods including satisfactory delivery to the customer Control of period costs Selection of new personnel, performance appraisals, and disciplinary action Maintaining a safe and orderly workplace Personal and professional development of skills Education And/or Experience A Technical bachelor’s degree is required (Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering preferred) Minimum of 10 years of chemical plant manufacturing experience required, including supervision of production, engineering, and maintenance personnel. Project Management supervision, including start up and commissioning efforts for new processes and new equipment. In-depth understanding of chemical plant operations is required. Direct experience with PSM/RMP covered processes is required, including participation in Process Hazard Analyses, Management of Change and Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews. Advanced experience in management skills including selection and supervision of high quality outside services. Contract negotiation skills are a plus. Demonstrated record of achieving cost efficiency. Skills Strong interpersonal leadership skills Strong verbal and written communication abilities Demonstrated history of critical thinking and problem solving MS Office Suite applications.
Enterprise resource planning / computerized maintenance management system platforms (SAP, Oracle, Chempax, Maximo, etc) Experience with reading prints, schematics, drawings and repair manuals.
