The Energy Operations division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans.

In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada. The Royalty Operations branch is responsible for accurate and timely calculation, assessment, collection and reconciliation of natural gas and conventional oil royalty. The branch is one of the primary drivers of revenue within the department, fostering relationships with the natural gas and oil industry, providing exceptional client service to ensure reporting for royalty purposes is accurate and in compliance with legislation and business rules.

Role Responsibilities Alberta Energy and Minerals has two available opportunities for experienced individuals looking to work within the Royalty Operations branch. We are seeking two (2) detail oriented and motivated Operational Analysts to join the Volumetric & Cost Reporting Unit and the Royalty Accounting Unit. This role reports to the Director, Strategic Partnerships in Petrinex and supports work conducted in the Royalty Operations branch.

You will be responsible for providing excellent front line client services to stakeholders in accordance with Royalty Operation’s operational processes and regulations. Success in this role will be driven by your ability to understand client needs and cultivate strong, professional relationships through effective communication.

You bring a high level of attention to detail, complemented by strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In this capacity, you will contribute to a team responsible for the accurate assessment, levy, and collection of natural gas Crown royalties in Alberta. In these roles, you will be responsible for: Providing quality client services to stakeholders and advising on interpretation of the Alberta Natural Gas Royalty Guidelines (Guidelines), policies, the Natural Gas Royalty Regulations (NGRR), and the Mines and Minerals Act (MMA).

Answering complex issues or questions raised by internal or external stakeholders affecting Crown royalty collection, calculation, and assessment to ensure royalty amounts are accurate and in compliance. Utilizing various internal and external applications to research, retrieve, interpret, and analyze data related to all aspects of royalty calculation. Using organization, multitasking and prioritizing skills to meet multiple deadlines.

Working as an individual and within a team to ensure operational and business requirements are met. Researching, investigating, analyzing, and proposing recommendations on emerging issues and projects. Assisting the Team Lead in organizing team business activities to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved in an efficient and innovative manner.

Assisting the Team Lead in ensuring business and system processes comply with internal controls, to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of operations, to achieve Branch and Department goals. Qualifications Required: High school diploma and four years of related experience. Equivalency: One year of experience for one year of education. One year of education for one year of experience.

The following are considered assets: An accounting diploma or Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accountants (CAPPA) certificate is considered an asset. Experience working with oil and gas businesses and industry processes relating to the reporting of oil and gas royalties. Efficiently using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Experience in enforcement of policies, including legislation and guidelines. Term of Employment: 2 full-time temporary positions until March 31, 2027. Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday.
