Offer Description\nYou will be based in the Neonatal Unit, a regional specialist service delivering expert care to critically ill and premature newborns, with 19 approved cots including intensive care capacity – the second largest neonatal unit in Ireland outside of Dublin.
\nAs a Consultant Neonatologist, you will:
\n- \n
- Provide senior clinical leadership and consultant‑level neonatal care for premature and critically ill newborn infants. \n
- Participate fully in the neonatal rota and serve as a senior presence on the unit. \n
- Supervise, mentor and train non‑consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs), junior staff and the multidisciplinary neonatal team. \n
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvement activities. \n
- Collaborate with paediatric support services, obstetrics, midwifery and allied health professionals. \n
- Undertake teaching responsibilities for medical students and junior doctors in conjunction with the University of Limerick. \n
- Contribute to service development and research initiatives. \n
Your time will be structured approximately as:

- 10 hours per week neonatal ward rounds \n
- 12 hours per week neonatal unit cover \n
- 5 hours per week diagnostic/treatment activity \n
- 6 hours per week outpatient and high‑risk follow‑up clinic duties \n
- 2 hours per week consultation services \n
- 4 hours per week management, professional development and teaching \n
- Participation in the neonatology on‑call rota \n

Eligibility:

- Suitable applicants might hold: \n
- UK CCT in Paediatrics and Neonatology experience \n
- EU Specialist qualification recognised under EU Directive \n
- American Board certification in Neonatology or equivalent \n
- Canadian Fellowship \n
- Australian or New Zealand Fellowship \n
- Eligibility for Irish Medical Council Specialist Registration in Paediatrics with neonatology competence is required before or shortly after appointment. \n
