Job Description

We are looking to hire for the position of Middle School Visual Art Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year, starting in February 2027, according to the following skills and qualifications.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Preferred experience in a multicultural school environment
  • Experience delivering social and emotional learning lessons
  • Experience in curriculum and unit design, using the Understanding By Design framework
  • Professional level proficiency in English
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with colleagues
  • Solid conceptual and applied knowledge of current research and trends in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Experience using the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) and an inquiry based approach (preferred)
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience
  • Teaching certificate that covers grades 6-8 in Visual Art

  • Ability to inspire middle school students and celebrate their unique stage of development
  • Ability to differentiate instruction in a class with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to create an engaging and active learning environment in a student-centered classroom
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing instructional needs and/or scheduling needs
  • Strong collaboration skills

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uses school's guiding statements to determine appropriate learning objectives
  • Creates a positive, inclusive learning environment where all students feel safe and cared for
  • Monitors and evaluates student progress and achievement in relation to learning objectives
  • Uses a body of learning evidence to inform instruction
  • Teaches in accordance with the Art department’s adopted beliefs and best practices
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues in creating authentic learning experiences that promote student choice and student agency
  • Leads and participates in exhibitions, cultural and community events related to the arts
  • Contributes to the school community outside of the classroom (e.g., after-school activities, coaching, etc.)
  • Serves as a middle school advisor
  • Teaches Exploratory courses as appropriate
  • Actively seeks professional growth opportunities through Nido’s PD Academy
  • Engages in the co-curricular, after school program by leading an ASA or coaching a team
  • Participates in Outdoor Education trips
  • Contributes to lunchtime and recess supervision
