Mechanical Design Engineer | Water & Wastewater | Belfast

Vickerstock are pleased to be partnering with an established engineering contractor as they continue to expand their multidisciplinary design capability supporting major water and wastewater infrastructure programmes across the UK.

They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with water industry experience to join their growing engineering team. Initial projects will include ECI work across major Severn Trent and United Utilities programmes, with further involvement throughout tender, design development and detailed design.

For a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys seeing how their designs are actually constructed and operated, this offers the opportunity to work closely with process, electrical, civil and delivery teams to develop practical engineering solutions for complex water infrastructure.

Your new role as Mechanical Design Engineer

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will develop mechanical engineering solutions across clean water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing mechanical designs for water and wastewater projects
  • Supporting equipment selection, specification and sizing
  • Producing calculations, technical specifications, schedules and design documentation
  • Supporting ECI, optioneering and value engineering activities
  • Working closely with Process Engineers to develop appropriate mechanical solutions
  • Coordinating designs with civil, structural and electrical engineering disciplines
  • Supporting projects throughout tender, design development and detailed design
  • Liaising with suppliers, project teams and construction colleagues to ensure solutions are practical and buildable
  • Providing technical support throughout project delivery and resolving design queries where required

What you will need to succeed as Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous mechanical design experience within the water or wastewater sector
  • Knowledge of mechanical plant and equipment associated with water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Experience producing calculations, specifications and technical design documentation
  • Ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience within consultancy, contracting or design & build environments will be considered
  • Chartered status, or progression towards Chartership, would be beneficial but is not essential
