Swift Shift Recruitment are partnered exclusively with City of Derry Airport to recruit an experienced Mechanic to join its in-house engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into a stable, long-term position where you'll work on a varied fleet of specialist vehicles and equipment within a modern, well-equipped workshop.

Unlike many mechanic roles, this position offers an excellent work-life balance with no weekend working, flexible working hours, early finish on Fridays and a comprehensive benefits package.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs across a range of vehicles and mechanical equipment, ensuring everything remains safe, reliable and operational.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys problem solving, takes pride in high-quality workmanship and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a close-knit engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults efficiently.
  • Complete repairs across a varied fleet of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation.
  • Support equipment reliability through planned maintenance programmes.
  • Assist with inspections and safety checks to ensure equipment remains fully operational.
  • Work alongside external contractors when specialist support is required.
  • Help maintain workshop stock levels, tools and equipment.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
  • Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies and attend training where required.

About You

We're keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • A recognised qualification or apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working as a mechanic within automotive, commercial vehicle, plant or industrial environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems would be advantageous.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work well within a team.
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship and safety.
