This is an exciting, full-time opportunity for a marketing and communications leader looking to drive impact at the intersection of clean energy, community development, and social impact. The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for the execution of Groundswell’s marketing and communications strategy across digital, media, and programmatic channels. This role plays a critical part in shaping how Groundswell tells its story—ensuring clarity, consistency, and measurable impact across all platforms.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Manager will oversee integrated communications initiatives, manage cross‑channel campaigns, and work collaboratively across departments to elevate program narratives, expand audience reach, and strengthen Groundswell’s brand as a trusted, people‑centered organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Communications & Narrative Development Implement integrated communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities and program goals Translate Groundswell’s work into clear, compelling narratives that resonate across audiences, including communities, partners, funders, and stakeholders Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and brand voice across all communications channels Partner with leadership and program teams to identify and elevate high‑impact storytelling opportunities Ensure the creation, editing, and quality control of communications materials, including website content, blogs, newsletters, email campaigns, and program narratives Lead development of high‑quality, audience‑centered content with a strong emphasis on narrative clarity, voice, and storytelling across channels Manage and maintain a strategic editorial calendar aligned with campaigns, priorities, and key milestones Translate complex programmatic, technical, and data‑driven information into accessible, audience‑centered messaging Ensure all content is on‑brand, timely, and aligned with Groundswell’s communications standards Implement Groundswell’s social media strategy across platforms, aligning content with organizational priorities and campaigns Serve as the primary voice steward across social channels, ensuring consistency in tone, narrative, and brand expression Create, edit, and publish high‑performing social content, including short‑form video, graphics, and written posts Translate programmatic work into compelling, platform‑native storytelling that drives engagement and audience growth Monitor trends, platform shifts, and emerging formats (e.g., short‑form video, reels) and integrate them into strategy Analyze performance metrics and continuously optimize content and campaigns to improve reach, engagement, and conversion Digital Communications & Channel Management Manage Groundswell’s digital ecosystem, including website, email marketing platforms, and content distribution channels Implement digital campaigns to drive engagement, awareness, and conversion Ensure alignment between website, email, and social content to create a cohesive, cross‑channel user journey Optimize digital content for performance, accessibility, and user experience Collaborate with design and technical teams to deliver high‑quality, visually engaging communications Campaigns, Media & Public Relations Plan and execute of integrated communications campaigns across programs and initiatives Shape campaign narratives and messaging frameworks that translate seamlessly across media, digital, and social platforms Develop press materials, media outreach strategies, and external communications Build and manage relationships with media partners, consultants, and key stakeholders Identify and elevate opportunities for earned media, thought leadership, and brand amplification Analytics, Reporting & Performance Optimization Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) across communications channels (email, web, social, media) Facilitate reporting efforts to assess the effectiveness of communications strategies and campaigns Use data insights to inform decision‑making, optimize performance, and improve engagement outcomes Contribute to organizational reporting and strategic planning through communications metrics Serve as a key point of coordination between Marketing & Communications and program teams Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with priorities Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, and partners to support communications initiatives Support planning and execution of events, webinars, and community engagement activities ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES As a member of the Groundswell team, the Marketing & Communications Manager is expected to: Support the pursuit of opportunities aligned with the Groundswell mission Drive continuous improvement in communications strategies, systems, and processes Identify and respond to emerging risks and opportunities WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is based in Washington, D.C. or Atlanta, and is expected to work in‑office four days per month in alignment with Groundswell’s hybrid/remote work plan. POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS This is a full‑time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. TRAVEL Occasional U.S. travel may be required. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field 4–7 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or media Demonstrated experience leading communications strategies, content development, and social media execution SUPERVISION The Marketing & Communications Manager will report to the Director of Marketing & Communications.
COMPENSATION Compensation for this position is within Groundswell’s established pay band for the Manager level, with a full‑time employee benefits package. BENEFITS Groundswell pays 100% of the monthlypremium for health,dental, vision, and long‑term disability for full‑time employees in accordance with Groundswell’s policy. Groundswell also covers 50% of spouses and dependents covered under the Groundswell healthcare, vision, and dental plan.
Matching 401 (k) plan contribution by Groundswell up to 4% for employees who choose to contribute to Groundswell’s 401 (k) plan, with immediate vesting. $45 per month to reimburse cellular phone use for business purposes. $75 per month to reimburse home internet access for business purposes. Fifteen (15) paid vacation days per year; eight (8) sick days; and two (2) personal days. Vacation and sick leave accrue at the start of your employment, restart each year on January 1, and increase with tenure.
Personal days begin after six months of employment. Groundswell also takes nine (9) paid federal holidays and a holiday break from December 24th to January 1st (inclusive). Pre‑tax benefits such as Smart Benefits, Flexible spending account, and Dependent care are also available.
