Who Are You? Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in advancing manufacturing capability through process optimization, automation, and digital manufacturing initiatives. This position is responsible for creating design concepts, standardizing designs, implementing, and continuously improving scalable, data-driven manufacturing processes that enhance productivity, quality, safety, and cost effectiveness.
This role serves as a critical strategic technical bridge between Design Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and external partners to support efficient production and successful industrialization of new products. Beyond initial New Product Introduction (NPI), the Manufacturing Engineer provides continuous lifecycle support to ensure long-term manufacturability, material optimization, and operational excellence. What Will You Do?
Key Responsibilities 1. Manufacturing Process Design & Continuous Improvement Lead end-to-end process design, validation, and optimization initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles. Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through cycle time reduction, scrap and rework minimization, and line balancing.
Design, develop, and implement custom tooling and fixtures to improve manufacturability, ergonomics, safety, and process repeatability. Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, routings, SOPs, and work instructions. 2. Production Planning & Operational Support Support production planning by defining efficient sequences of operations and estimating production time and cost.
Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure material availability and production readiness. Specify, select, and implement manufacturing equipment to meet production, quality, and safety requirements. Design and deploy robotic automation solutions (e.g., machine tending, welding, pick-and-place, palletizing), including cell layouts, safety systems, and end-of-arm tooling.
Lead controls integration involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and motion systems, ensuring robust connectivity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Support digital manufacturing initiatives by improving visibility of production performance through data integration, dashboards, and reporting tools. Collaborate with IT, Operations, and equipment suppliers to enable effective data flow from shop-floor equipment to enterprise systems.
Required Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics, or a related Engineering discipline. Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (discrete, batch, or continuous). Firsthand experience in industrial robotics (e.g., FANUC or equivalent platforms).
Proficiency in tooling and fixture design using CAD, with working knowledge of GD&T, MSA, and process capability studies. Preferred Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, PMP). Familiarity with ERP/MES integration and tools such as Power BI.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Advanced understanding of heavy-plate steel fabrication, CWB/AWS welding standards, and machining processes. Broad theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. Expert proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for specialized fixture and tooling design.
Skilled in developing PFMEAs, Control Plans, work instructions, line balancing, and ergonomics to optimize throughput. Ability to analyze “Design-to-Build” workflows to improve OEE and reduce cycle times. High ethical standards consistent with APEGA/ASET professional registration.
