Job Description The Manager, Taxation is responsible for all aspects relating to the company’s tax requirements. This includes establishing and maintaining corporate and indirect tax records, preparing tax returns and provisions and other related financial and management reports, as well as ensuring that the internal and external tax reporting system is accurate and complete for reporting and compliance purposes. Compliance includes providing required financial information to federal, provincial and foreign taxation authorities.
This role also develops and implements tax-planning strategies to minimize company tax liabilities and participates in financial accounting and management functions, such as maintaining management reports and posting journal entries. Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What You’ll Do Prepares and provides analysis on all aspects relating to the company’s corporate and indirect tax reporting requirements, including preparation and/or review of annual, monthly and periodic reports as required by various tax authorities. Ensures that all external submissions and filings are provided on an accurate and timely basis and deadlines are met. Supports the company’s efforts in preparing the annual Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit claim.
Prepares and/or reviews comprehensive tax provision working papers. Ensures effective tax systems and controls are in place. Coordinates tax accounting functions within the financial reporting department.
Evaluates and establishes policies and procedures regarding compliance reporting to federal, provincial and foreign tax authorities. Ensures that policies and procedures are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements and industry trends. Develops accurate tax forecasting models to support key business decisions.
Supports tax planning initiatives for the company and its parent organization to meet organizational goals. Acts as the internal advisor for all tax related matters. Responsible for ensuring tax related transactions are completed in all respects, recommends changes in tracking accounting information and implements changes as required.
Supports any new systems integration that is designed to improve financial reporting, information flow, and management analysis in accordance with established corporate goals. Works with external auditors in corporate and indirect tax audits and liaises with business areas to obtain necessary documentation. Works with the senior management team to implement corporate goals and objectives.
What You’ll Bring CPA designation. Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate tax role with at least one year in a corporate tax manager role. Supervisory experience is an asset.
Demonstrated technical proficiency and knowledge in domestic and cross border/international taxation. Knowledge of and experience with indirect tax is strongly preferred. Experience preparing and/or reviewing deferred/future income tax calculations.
Experience with SR&ED is strongly preferred. Experience with EIFEL and Pillar 2 is an asset.li>Accounting experience and knowledge of financial practices and procedures. Demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively integrate and align optimum tax strategies with business strategies.
Ability to work independently and as a team under tight deadlines. Understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements Ability to organize, coordinate and direct projects Strong verbal and written communications skills. Computer literate, including tax reporting software and advanced Excel.

The estimated salary for this position is $135,000 - $165,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
