About the Job As an Engineering Manager for the Edge Compute and Communication group, you will lead a highâperforming team that leverages cuttingâedge technologies to deliver complex, highâimpact software systems. You will be responsible for building the teamâs culture, driving execution, and ensuring software quality and mission success.
Youâll partner with crossâfunctional leadershipâincluding seasoned engineers and product managersâto balance rapid delivery with robust, scalable architecture, always anchoring decisions in the realities of connected warfare. A Note on This Role: This is an Engineering Manager role focused on both technical (opinionated about architecture, reliability, performance and quality) and nonâtechnical (people, process, and project leadership). What Youâll Do Lead & Mentor: Manage and grow a team of 10â15 engineers, fostering a highâperformance, highâintegrity culture focused on missionâcritical delivery and rapid iteration.
Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with product, mission systems, and technical leadership to define team objectives, prioritize work streams, and align with broader Connected Warfare initiatives. Drive Execution: Ensure the timely and reliable delivery of complex software projects by removing impediments, providing the necessary resources, and promoting agile methodologies. Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary conduit between your team and senior leadership, communicating status updates, managing expectations, and advocating for your teamâs needs.
Technical Ownership: Supervise and monitor architecture, design and implementation of features, ensuring they meet quality standards and customerâs requirements. Assist engineers in solving reliability and operational issues. Quality & Process Ownership: Champion best practices in software design, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD processes to ensure robust, scalable, and maintainable systems that are missionâready.
CrossâFunctional Collaboration: Work closely with technical peers and other teams to support system integration, resolve technical challenges, and continuously improve operational workflows. People Development: Invest in the professional growth of your team through coaching, feedback, and structured career development plans. Cultivate a âwhatever it takesâ mindset and promote extreme ownership.
Operational Insight: Occasionally travel (up to 10% of the time) to work alongside teammates and observe systems in realâworld operational settings, ensuring that software solutions address actual field challenges. Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a software engineering manager, with a proven record of building and leading highâperforming teams. 8+ years of handsâon software development experience, demonstrating a strong technical foundation in distributed systems, networked applications, Embedded Linux systems or related fields. Deep understanding and coding skills in Go, Rust, C++ or other system programming languages.
Successful track record of delivering complex software projects under tight deadlines while managing stakeholder relationships in a matrixed organization. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop talented engineers. Expertise in agile development methodologies and process improvement.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing teams in missionâcritical domains such as command and control, robotics, or defense applications.
Familiarity with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices. Background in developing software for distributed systems, connected ecosystems and hardware integrations. Experience working within or closely with multiâdomain operation teams.
A deep understanding of networking, security, and system integration challenges in highâstakes environments. US Salary Range $191,000 - $253,000 USD The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
