Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to support the safe and efficient operation of a USDA-regulated meat processing facility. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on production and packaging equipment while adhering to all food safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment and facility systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair processing equipment including conveyors, grinders, slicers, mixers, blenders, packaging machines, and refrigeration systems.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

  • Respond to production breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner to minimize downtime.

  • Assist in equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications.

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, food safety standards (e.g., USDA, HACCP), and internal safety protocols.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance.

  • Communicate effectively with production, QA, sanitation, and other departments.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to 5S and GMP standards.


Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechanical field preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment (meat industry experience preferred).

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and motors.

  • Basic knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and industrial controls.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices in a USDA-inspected facility is a plus.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.

  • Comfortable working in cold, wet, and noisy environments (typical of meat processing facilities).

  • Must be able to wear required PPE and comply with hygiene standards.


Work Environment:
  • Meat processing environment with exposure to raw meat products, refrigerated areas, and manufacturing machinery.

  • Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
