Maintenance Technician – Passenger Rail Fleet

Job Description

This full-time, permanent role supports the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a modern passenger rail fleet in Ottawa. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on diesel-electric and hybrid-powered rail vehicles to ensure safety, reliability, and operational readiness within a 24/7 transit environment. The position offers long-term stability, technical challenges, and the opportunity to work with advanced rail systems in a safety-critical setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on modern passenger rail vehicles
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, and control systems
• Diagnose faults using schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and diagnostic equipment
• Complete maintenance records and inspection documentation accurately
• Support fleet reliability and vehicle availability through high-quality maintenance practices
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety and performance
• Collaborate with technicians, supervisors, and operations personnel to resolve technical issues
• Maintain the highest standards of safety within a safety-critical environment

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting experience involving both electrical and mechanical systems
• Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical documentation
• Experience maintaining vehicles, equipment, or industrial machinery
• Proven problem-solving ability in a maintenance environment
• Strong commitment to workplace safety
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with control operators, maintenance leadership, colleagues, and passengers when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Red Seal 310T Truck and Coach Technician license is highly valued.
• Experience with diesel engines, heavy equipment repair, or industrial maintenance.
• Background in fleet maintenance, transit systems, aviation, aircraft maintenance, or avionic maintenance.
• Exposure to railway maintenance or passenger rail systems (rail experience is highly preferred but not required).
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and control systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems and their maintenance in vehicles or industrial environments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ottawa, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.84 - $40.84/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
