Maintenance & Engineering Manager

A leading international manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Maintenance & Engineering Manager to lead the maintenance and engineering function at its Belfast manufacturing site.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for plant reliability, maintenance strategy, engineering standards, team development and capital projects. You'll play a key role in improving plant availability, reducing downtime and driving continuous improvement across the site.
The Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will lead and develop the site engineering and maintenance team, ensuring the plant operates safely, reliably and efficiently.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead, develop and manage the site maintenance and engineering team
- Deliver planned, preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
- Take ownership of plant reliability, breakdown performance and root cause analysis
- Drive improvements in plant availability and reduce unplanned downtime
- Manage engineering budgets, contractors, spare parts and maintenance costs
- Provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical and automation systems
- Utilise CMMS, OEE and maintenance data to identify and prioritise improvements
- Lead capital and engineering projects from initial scope through to installation, commissioning and handover
- Work closely with Operations to improve throughput, quality, energy efficiency and overall plant performance
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, statutory and engineering standards
- Manage external contractors and service providers
- Maintain engineering documentation, asset records, drawings and risk assessments
- Develop engineering capability, succession plans and standards across the site
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior maintenance or engineering leadership role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- A strong mechanical engineering background with good electrical and automation knowledge
- Proven experience improving plant reliability and planned maintenance performance
- Experience managing engineering budgets, contractors and capital projects
- Working knowledge of CMMS, OEE, PLC, SCADA, HMI and industrial process control systems
- Strong knowledge of health & safety, contractor management and statutory compliance
- A relevant engineering degree, higher qualification or recognised apprenticeship with substantial experience
- Experience within FMCG, food, process manufacturing, agri-food or similar environments would be advantageous
You'll need to be a visible and hands-on leader, with strong technical judgement and the ability to make decisions under pressure. A practical, data-led approach to problem solving and continuous improvement is essential, alongside the ability to influence and communicate effectively with Operations, technical teams, suppliers and senior management.
