Company
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Maintenance Engineer for their Ballymena area operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served Maintenance Engineer to join a multi-skilled Engineering team within a fast-paced and highly automated production environment.
The site currently has 9 Engineers working across the shift patterns and reporting to the Site Engineering Manager.
We are particularly interested in speaking with genuinely multi-skilled Maintenance Engineers who have experience across both electrical and mechanical maintenance. However, candidates who are stronger or qualified in one discipline will also be considered, provided they have good practical exposure to the other and are comfortable working within a multi-skilled maintenance environment.
The Role of Maintenance Engineer
Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, you will play a key role within the multi-skilled Engineering team, with responsibility for maximising the performance and reliability of automated production, filling and packing machinery alongside associated site services.
This is a varied, hands-on engineering position covering preventative maintenance, breakdown response, fault diagnosis, machinery overhaul and Continuous Improvement, alongside involvement in the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities for this Maintenance Engineer position
- Carry out planned and preventative maintenance across production plant and equipment.
- Diagnose equipment faults and complete adjustments and repairs as required.
- Maintain and optimise automated production, filling and packing machinery.
- Overhaul mechanical plant and machinery to maintain reliability and performance.
- Ensure equipment is correctly set and maintained to the required standards.
- Identify and implement Continuous Improvement projects across production processes and equipment.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new plant and machinery.
- Maintain and monitor mechanical and electrical utilities across the site.
- Carry out general engineering and building fabric repairs where required.
- Work closely with Production and the wider Engineering team to minimise downtime and maximise equipment performance.
Essential Criteria for this Maintenance Engineer position
- Completed an Engineering apprenticeship or recognised Engineering training programme.
- Significant recent hands-on maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing, production or process environment, ideally with at least 3 years' post-apprenticeship experience.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability across production machinery.
- Ideally multi-skilled across electrical and mechanical maintenance, although candidates with a stronger bias towards either discipline will be considered.
Experience within food, FMCG, beverage, packaging or another automated manufacturing environment would transfer particularly well into this position.
Shift Pattern
The position operates across a 5-week rotating shift pattern, with 12-hour shifts and an average working week of approximately 46 hours.
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday - 5:30am start
Week 2: Sunday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday - 5:30am start
Week 3: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 5:30am start
Week 4: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - 5:30pm start
Week 5: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - 5:30pm start
The shift pattern may be subject to change.
