\n Principal Lawyer / Legal Counsel (5.5 Week Contract)\n

Melbourne | $100-$130 per hour + super

\n

We are seeking an experienced Principal Lawyer / Legal Counsel for a short-term 5.5-week coverage with a Victorian Government organisation. This role will provide high-level legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial, governance, compliance and operational matters.

Key Responsibilities\n

\n
• Provide trusted legal advice to executives and senior stakeholders.
\n
• Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including contracts, licences, MOUs and deeds.
\n
• Support governance, compliance and legislative accountability requirements.
\n
• Manage legal matters, disputes and case management activities.
\n
• Develop and implement legal policies, processes and frameworks.
\n
• Conduct legal research and provide strategic advice on emerging legal issues.
\n
• Ensure alignment with Victorian Government policies, procurement requirements and statutory obligations.
\n

About You\n

\n
• Qualified Australian lawyer with substantial post-admission experience.
\n
• Strong background in commercial law, contracting and dispute resolution.
\n
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
\n
• Sound knowledge of Victorian Government procurement frameworks and processes.
\n
• Strong understanding of intellectual property, privacy and data protection legislation.
\n
• Experience providing executive-level legal advice in a government, statutory authority or highly regulated environment.
\n
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
\n
