Description Under general supervision performs manual and non‑professional work in Health, Hospital Nursing or Ancillary Services. Approximate Salary Health Technician I: $11.23 to $14.27 per hour Health Technician II: $11.73 to $16.41 per hour Health Technician III: $12.96 to $18.08 per hour EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree. BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center—Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Health Technician I/II/III are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation. Examples Of Duties Depending upon the assignment, may transport patients between patient units and other parts of the hospital.

Pick‑up and deliver items such as lab specimens, reports and equipment and run errands. Retrieve charts, file data, maintain records, assign patient registry numbers and microfilm records. Health Technician II May Also Assists in interviewing patients and/or families of patients to complete social and medical histories as required.

In special treatment programs, e.g., alcohol or drug abuse, evaluates individual problem situations requiring the attention of professional staff and assists the professional staff in a variety of sub‑professional casework activity. Schedules appointments with doctors for physical examinations. Assists physician and technologist in examination and analysis of placentas, blood samples, or other specialized laboratory procedures, assists in charting, recording and other related functions.

In special health programs, may provide health information and education to persons and families in the community through field visits as well as contacting employers regarding public health problems and needs including inspection of facilities. May assist in the preparation of health education materials for distribution to the community. Health Technician III May Also Conducts arts and crafts activities, recreational activities and exercise groups.

Interviews clients, charts on client participation. Provides transportation to clients. Assists with program planning, ordering and purchasing of supplies.

Teaches various normalization skills, assists with supervision of volunteers and students. Typical Qualifications These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Health Technician I Equivalent to six (6) months experience performing manual or non‑professional work in assisting professional or licensed staff, preferably in a hospital or health care setting.

Some assignments may require limited laboratory knowledge which may be obtained by six months experience or completion of four (4) college units in a laboratory science. Health Technician II One (1) year experience in nutrition, gerontology, or institutional management. College coursework may be substituted for one year of relevant coursework providing the candidate has a minimum of six (6) semester hours in one or more of the social sciences on food and nutrition.

Health Technician III Two (2) years of experience at a level comparable to that of a Health Technician II in the area of specialization is required. Two (2) years college coursework in the area of social science, rehabilitation or related areas may be substitute on a year‑for‑year basis. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S) Some positions may require a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
