Lecturer in Education (Professional Practice) Specific-Purpose Contract, 1FTE, Contract Type A

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Education (Professional Practice) from qualified and experienced second-level teachers in the subject areas of Religion, Music, Spanish, CSPE/Politics and Society and/or Irish. Ideally, candidates will be qualified to teach two of these subjects.

The School of Education at University of Galway has a long tradition in the education and professional learning of teachers and school leaders dating back to its establishment as a Faculty in 1915. The School which provides initial teacher education at undergraduate and postgraduate level, is one of the three lead partners in the Professional Diploma in School Leadership (PDSL) and the lead partner in the Diploma Ghairmiúil i gCeannaireacht Scoile (DGCS). The post-holder to be recruited here will play a significant role in initial teacher education for teachers in a range of subject areas.

They will have the necessary experience and expertise to contribute and/or lead the development of new programmes and professional learning opportunities in the areas of professional practice, pedagogy and curriculum and assessment as well as in one or two specific teaching subjects. • support students as they develop and explore their emerging professional identity as teachers and leaders;
• enable students to develop their capacity as inquiry-based practitioners.

The Outcomes/ Key Deliverables Attached To This Post Include

• Support the development and delivery of the current Professional Practice, Subject Pedagogy, and Professional Studies (Curriculum and Assessment) modules and the final year student Practitioner Research projects of the School's initial teacher education programmes.
• Support the initial teacher education programmes through school placement supervision.
• Support the administrative aspects of the teacher education programmes in the School.
• Contribute to the research activities of the School, particularly in terms of collaboration in School research projects, conferences and meetings, publications and grant preparation.
• A relevant teaching qualification and experience teaching at second level are essential. The successful candidate will also have research experience and the capacity to contribute to and support research projects to PhD level. A completed PhD is desirable.

Salary: €65,552 to €104,573 p.a.
