\nSC3 - Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole-school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
\nSC4 - Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.
\nSC5 - Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes. Demonstrated ability to reflect upon their own, others and whole-school practice and contribute to the provision of whole-school professional learning.
\nSC6 - Demonstrated capacity to lead the Middle School Team in building a safe, connected and inclusive learning environment through the consistent implementation of the college's School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS), High Impact Wellbeing Strategies (HIWS) and the proactive use of attendance and engagement data to design and lead targeted interventions.
Role\nLeading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range.The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
\nTypically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
\nLeading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
\nLeading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
\nLeading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Responsibilities\nSpecific to the role
\nThe Leading Teacher - Director of Middle School (7-9) is accountable to the Assistant Principal responsible for Middle School. The position is an integral component of the College Leadership team and Wellbeing Team. The Director of Middle School will work closely with the Year Level Team Leaders at Years 7, 8 and 9 and Educations Support staff.
The Director of Middle School will also work closely with the Director of Senior School, Director of Curriculum & Assessment, Careers, Wellbeing Team and Learning Specialists.
\nThe Director of Middle School will have specific responsibility for:
\nThe promotion and support of excellence in Teaching and Learning in the Middle School.
\nLead the Middle School Level Leaders team and support them with the management of students within the Middle School
\nSet expectations for students in the Middle School in relation to uniform, behaviour, and the upholding of College values and communicate these in the appropriate forums. (Assemblies, emails, Compass notices)
\nLead and manage staff compliance with College policies and procedures
\nOversee and publicise Middle School events and ensure the timely completion of responsibilities
\nEnsure that College processes result in effective communication within the community
\nMeeting with the Principal Team, Leadership Team and members of the Wellbeing team
\nActively promote and lead innovation in the areas of Teaching and Learning and Student Well-being and connectedness within the College
\nOversee administration associated with students in the Middle School including admissions, attendance, Student Engagement and Wellbeing
\nLead the Transition process from Year 6 to Year 7 and Year 9 to 10 (Senior School)
\nMonitoring, analysing and distributing student data to staff
\nMonitor student performance and ensure there is regular, effective communication to parents
\nCoordinate and deliver Professional Workshops for staff on key improvement strategies for Teaching and Learning and student Wellbeing and Engagement
\nWork with staff to improve teaching practice and to respond to student requirements
\nPrepare and publish articles relating to Middle School for College Publications
\nLead Middle School and Year Level activities and programs relating to Wellbeing, Student Enrichment, Leadership and Teaching and Learning
\nEstablish and sustain valuable relationships with past students, local schools and community organisations to ensure Monbulk College continues to be connected and respected in the wider community
\nIdentify students who require an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Ensure IEPs are completed and Student Support Groups (SSGs) are established as required and student progress tracked
\nLead student recognition assemblies
\nOther duties as directed by the Principal.

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class:

- The person must have provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching; and \n
- if the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, they must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily completed a postgraduate level accredited initial teacher education program that has been accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority as satisfying the requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership 'Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures'; and \n
- a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program after 1 July 2016 must also demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements (this condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian ITE program completed by the person). \n
