Lead Test Engineer
Moment Energy
Job Description
Independent energy is here. Help us deploy it. Energy should be free.
Free from aging grids, fragile supply chains, and unnecessary extraction. At Moment Energy, we’re building a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted for everyone. The world doesn’t need another promise about energy; it needs proof that a freer future is possible.
Moment Energy is the pragmatic liberator of power, the only company certified to turn the largest untapped energy supply into independent energy. Now is the moment. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with decades of life left, we put them to work by repurposing large‑format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real‑world impact.
We were told second‑life batteries would never be safe enough or scalable enough. We didn’t argue, we engineered the solution. Today, Moment Energy delivers 5x the energy density and holds the certifications required to deploy energy independence at scale.
Role Lead Test Engineer Lead Moment Energy’s testing and validation capabilities, defining and executing a testing strategy that ensures the safety, reliability, and performance of our battery energy storage systems (BESS). Responsibilities and Duties Own and lead Moment Energy’s testing and validation strategy across R&D, product development, and certification. Develop and maintain comprehensive test frameworks covering component, subsystem, rack, and full BESS‑level validation.
Establish testing standards, methodologies, and best practices across the engineering organization. Mentor and guide Test Engineers, providing technical leadership and support on complex testing activities. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to define validation plans for new products, features, and design changes.
Design, build, and scale advanced test infrastructure for battery modules, racks, and full BESS systems. Lead the development of automated testing systems, data acquisition infrastructure, and long‑duration reliability testing capabilities. Oversee lab safety procedures and ensure safe operation of high‑voltage testing environments.
Maintain and improve lab equipment, including battery cyclers, DAQ systems, power supplies, and instrumentation. Testing & Validation Design and execute complex test plans for product validation, certification, R&D investigations, and lifecycle testing. Build and oversee advanced test setups involving high‑voltage DC and AC systems (up to 1000VDC, 600VAC).
Operate battery cyclers to conduct testing on cells, modules, racks, and full BESS units. Develop custom test fixtures and experimental setups to evaluate new concepts and investigate failure modes. Support certification and compliance testing, including pre‑compliance testing and coordination with certified test labs.
Data Analysis & Reporting Develop automated test scripts and tools to streamline testing and data collection. Analyze large test datasets using Python or similar tools to identify performance trends, reliability issues, and failure mechanisms. Produce clear reports and presentations summarizing results and engineering recommendations.
Work with cross‑functional teams to translate test results into actionable design improvements. Candidate We’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline. 6+ years of experience in hardware testing, validation, or verification roles. Strong experience designing and executing complex engineering test plans and validation programs.
Demonstrated experience working safely with high‑voltage DC and AC systems. Deep experience building electro‑mechanical test setups, wiring instrumentation, and configuring test equipment. Experience with data acquisition systems (DAQ), instrumentation, and test automation.
Strong data analysis capabilities using tools such as Python, MATLAB, or similar environments. Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineers in a collaborative environment. Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to investigate complex system failures.
Previous experience in a high‑growth fast‑paced environment is highly desired. Nice‑to‑Have Experience Experience testing lithium‑ion battery systems, battery modules, or battery energy storage systems. Familiarity with battery cyclers and battery management systems (BMS).
Knowledge of battery and energy storage safety standards such as UL1973, UL9540, and related compliance frameworks. Experience with industrial communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, or SCPI. Experience testing power electronics, inverters, and grid‑connected energy systems.
