Job Description Job Description Lead Electrician Supervisor – Federal & DoD Renovation Projects Location: San Diego County, CA Position Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD base access (existing clearance a plus) Travel: Local to San Diego County bases , Primarily NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA About the Role Permon Contractors Inc, is seeking a Lead Electrician Supervisor to manage interior and exterior renovation projects on Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal facilities across San Diego County. You will lead field crews, coordinate with base personnel, and ensure all electrical work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with military and federal standards. Key Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate daily work of electricians and helpers on DoD and federal renovation projects (interior and exterior).
Plan, schedule, and assign manpower, materials, and equipment to meet project milestones. Interpret electrical plans, specifications, and applicable codes/standards (NEC, NFPA, UFC, base-specific requirements). Maintain all redlines and as-builts pertaining to electrical work, lighting photometrics, and wiring schematics Oversee installation, modification, and renovation of: Power distribution and panelboard upgrades Lighting (indoor/outdoor, energy-efficient retrofits, controls) Branch circuits and receptacle layouts for renovated spaces Grounding/bonding and surge protection Emergency and backup power systems (generators, ATS, UPS) Coordinate outages, tie-ins, and shutdowns with base facility staff and government representatives.
Enforce safety policies and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EM 385-1-1 as applicable, site-specific safety plans). Perform and document quality control inspections; ensure work meets contract requirements and all codes. Maintain daily reports, as-builts, redlines, test reports, and material/equipment logs.
Mentor, train, and evaluate crew members; promote high workmanship standards. Participate in pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and government inspections. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED.
Valid California Journeyman or General Electrician certification (Master-level credentials a plus). Minimum 5–7 years commercial/industrial electrical experience, including interior/exterior renovations. At least 2–3 years in a supervisory/foreman or lead role.
Proven experience on federal, DoD, or secure facility projects. Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and relevant federal/military requirements. Ability to read and interpret one-lines, blueprints, panel schedules, and specifications.
Experience coordinating work in occupied facilities and active bases (phased work, shutdowns, access control). Eligible for DoD base access and ability to pass background checks and drug screening. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience on NAVFAC, USACE, or other DoD contracts in Southern California is a must. OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification. Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 and base-specific safety requirements.
Experience with exterior site lighting upgrades and energy- efficiency/retrofit projects. Experience using construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, or similar). Physical & Work Environment Requirements Work on active military and federal facilities, indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders/scaffolding, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed. Willingness to occasionally work overtime, nights, weekends, or off-hours to accommodate base operations and shutdowns. What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience.
