Job Description

Position Purpose Reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Technology, the incumbent manages a group of IT professionals engaged in the provision of computing and network support services. They plan, organize controls and evaluate operations, establish procedures and standards, and ensure the team has the resources needed to deliver efficient network services. The role has full responsibility for systems and applications critical to business operations, and oversees the planning, evaluation, and maintenance of information systems within the assigned faculty/service.

This is a 12-month contract position, and the posting will remain open until the role is filled. Responsibilities Strategic Planning: Responsible for short‑ and long‑term planning of all IT assets for the assigned service, analyzing needs, preparing budget requirements, and making recommendations for replacements and upgrades. Operations Management: Supervises technical staff, tracks project status, identifies problems, allocates resources, and ensures services are completed on schedule and to a high standard.

Human Resources Management: Recruits, mentors, trains, develops, manages, and evaluates staff to maintain capable and engaged resources. Technical Expertise: Provides leadership and advanced technical expertise on computing, network, and technical services, acting as a second level of escalation for complex issues. Data Security: Ensures confidentiality, security, and accessibility of institutional data, complying with all information security and privacy policies and related standards.

Qualifications and Experience University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum five years of experience managing IT operations and leading a team of IT professionals. Knowledge of computing software & hardware, network, telephony, and multimedia equipment.

Knowledge of IT service management best practices. Knowledge of the University’s hardware, software, peripherals, and security guidelines and standards. Knowledge of the University’s business operations and priorities.

Experience negotiating, implementing, and monitoring service level agreements. Experience planning and managing IT projects and related budgets. Experience in human resources management, including hiring, supervising, coaching, and performance management.

Experience in change management. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to stay abreast of emerging technologies.

Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written). Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19 as defined in Policy 129 – Covid‑19 Vaccination.
