Position Overview

The Key Account Manager will own and grow a portfolio of national and regional retail customers while managing the broker’s relationships supporting those accounts. This role is responsible for profitable revenue growth, new distribution, account development, customer planning, forecasting, trade management, retail execution, and long-term customer relationships.

The Key Account Manager serves as the commercial owner for assigned customers from buyer engagement through authorization, purchase order, launch, retail execution, and reorder. The role requires a balance of new business development and disciplined management of existing accounts, with close coordination across Operations, Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales Analytics, and field sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer & Account Management: Own and grow relationships with national and regional retail customers across grocery, mass, club, convenience, and other strategic channels. Develop account plans focused on revenue, distribution, assortment, velocity, and profitability, while leading customer meetings, negotiations, presentations, promotions, and business reviews.

  • Business Development: Identify and develop new retail opportunities, build an active customer pipeline, and drive opportunities from initial buyer engagement through product submission, authorization, purchase order, launch, and reorder.

  • Broker Management: Manage assigned broker relationships, establish priorities and commercial targets, review pipelines and account performance, ensure measurable business development, and coordinate clear ownership between brokers and internal teams.

  • Revenue, Pricing & Trade Management: Manage sales and profitability performance for assigned accounts. Develop pricing and promotional recommendations, evaluate trade investments and customer costs, and monitor promotional results to support profitable growth.

  • Forecasting & Supply Coordination: Maintain accurate customer and SKU-level forecasts and communicate expected demand, promotions, distribution changes, and new opportunities to Operations and Supply Chain. Ensure customer commitments align with product availability, inventory, lead times, and fulfillment capabilities.

  • Retail Execution & Business Analysis: Monitor customer and account performance using POS, distributor, internal, and available market data. Analyze sales, distribution, SKU performance, velocity, promotions, inventory, out-of-stocks, trade spending, margins, and reorders to identify risks and growth opportunities.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, Sales Analytics, and Leadership to align customer priorities, launches, pricing, forecasting, promotions, profitability, service levels, and growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive CPG sales or account management experience, preferably within food, beverage, confectionery, snacks, or related categories.

  • Demonstrated experience managing regional or national retail customers at HQ level. (Required)

  • Experience working with grocery, mass, club, convenience, distributors, wholesalers, or similar retail channels.

  • Proven ability to develop customer relationships, open new business, negotiate commercial programs, and deliver measurable revenue growth.

  • Experience managing or working closely with CPG broker organizations.

  • Strong understanding of retail pricing, trade promotions, customer planning, merchandising, and retail execution.

  • Strong analytical ability with working knowledge of customer P&Ls, margin, trade investment, forecasting, and business planning.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to travel regularly for customer meetings, trade shows, broker meetings, and business reviews.

Preferred

  • Direct experience calling on major national or regional grocery, mass, club, or convenience retailers.

  • Experience with NielsenIQ, Circana, retailer portals, or syndicated CPG data.

  • Experience working with distributors and wholesalers such as KeHE, UNFI, C&S, AWG, MDI, or comparable organizations.

  • Experience managing businesses involving imported products, extended supply lead times, or complex inventory planning.

  • Experience using NetSuite or a comparable ERP system.

  • Spanish language capability is a plus, but not required.
