The role
We're looking for a junior mechatronics technician who loves making things. If you've spent your weekends building drones, RC cars, robots or motorbikes, we want to hear from you.
This is a hands-on, all-rounder role. You'll take on the building, printing, wiring and fixing that keeps our projects moving, so our engineers can focus on design and development. You'll learn fast, work across every part of our robots, and see your work go out into the field.
No formal experience? That's fine. We care far more about what you've built than where you've worked.
What you'll do
Design simple parts, brackets and enclosures in CAD, then 3D print and refine them
Run and maintain our 3D printers and keep the workshop organised
Build and repair wiring looms, cables and small electronic assemblies, including soldering
Assemble, modify and test robotic prototypes alongside the engineering team
Use hand and power tools for fabrication, fitting and general workshop jobs
Diagnose and fix mechanical and electrical faults
Help prepare equipment for field testing and support trials on site
Run errands such as picking up parts and materials, and transporting equipment
Take on whatever practical tasks help the team move faster
What we’re looking for
Above all, a genuine passion for making things. You’re a doer: you’d rather build it and see what happens than talk about it.
A track record of building things through hobby, freelance or personal projects, such as drones, RC vehicles, robots, cars or motorbikes
Experience with 3D design in any CAD package (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, FreeCAD, whatever you use)
Hands‑on 3D printing experience, including setup, slicing and troubleshooting
Basic electronics knowledge and confident soldering skills
Comfortable with hand and power tools, and safe workshop practices
A current Australian driver’s licence
Willingness to learn, take direction and pitch in on any task
Nice to have
Study in mechatronics, electrical, mechanical or a related trade or degree (current students welcome)
Experience with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi
Familiarity with batteries, motors, ESCs and flight controllers
Basic metalwork or machining skills
