About the Role

The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Financial Controller in delivering accurate and timely financial records, with a primary focus on General Ledger integrity, Bank Reconciliations Management, General Cashier oversight, and the End-of-Month close process

Your key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and review General Ledger accounts, analysing balances and investigating material variances
  • Prepare and review journals for accruals, prepayments, and other accounting adjustments
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end financial close processes, including financial statement preparation and management reporting
  • Analyse balance sheet accounts and Bank Reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and recommending appropriate adjustments
  • Supervise cashiering activities including cash float management and reconciliation
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports and analysis to support management decision-making and business planning
  • Maintain and review internal control systems, accounting policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information
  • Assist with taxation and statutory reporting requirements and ensure compliance with applicable accounting and statutory requirements
  • Building and maintaining professional internal relationships

What you will bring to the role:

  • Proficiency with Opera Cloud, SunSystems accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and journal entry processes
  • Familiarisation with cash handling practices, including oversight of General Cashier operations and petty cash reconciliation
  • Exposure to end-of-month close processes, including accruals, prepayments, and preparation of financial schedules
  • Development of analytical and organisational skills in a dynamic hotel finance environment
  • Understanding of Australian accounting standards, internal controls, and statutory compliance relevant to the hospitality industry
  • Practical insight into hotel finance operations, including cross-departmental financial coordination

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 per annum
