Installations Technician - Role Summary:
The Installations Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality installation of interior and exterior planting schemes at client sites. The role focuses on preparing, transporting, positioning and planting live plants and planters in line with project plans and Universal Floral quality standards. The Technician will report to the Installations Team Lead and work closely with Operations, Sales and Scheduling teams to deliver projects professionally, on time and with minimal disruption to the client.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete interior and exterior plant installations at client sites in accordance with approved project plans, layouts and instructions.
- Prepare plants, planters, liners, compost, irrigation components, tools and materials before each installation.
- Load, secure, transport and unload plants and installation materials safely, taking care to prevent damage.
- Position planters accurately and plant to the required depth, finish and presentation standard.
- Inspect plants before installation and report any quality, pest, damage or suitability concerns to the manager.
- Protect floors, walls, furniture and surrounding areas during installation and leave each work area clean and presentable.
- Remove packaging, waste, surplus compost and debris from site and dispose of materials correctly.
- Carry out basic finishing and initial aftercare at installation, including watering, cleaning foliage and minor pruning where required.
- Support the installation of accessories and related items, including planter liners, irrigation systems and decorative finishes, where trained to do so.
- Follow site-specific instructions, access arrangements, permits, delivery times and client requirements.
- Communicate promptly with the manager regarding access issues, delays, changes in scope, shortages, damage or site conditions that could affect delivery.
- Record completed work, materials used, issues identified and any agreed follow-up actions accurately and on time on the Fieldmotion app.
- Maintain vehicles, tools and equipment in good condition and report defects immediately.
- Assist colleagues on larger installations and support other operational areas when business needs require.
Skills and Experience:
- Practical experience in plant installation, landscaping, horticulture, fit-out, construction or a similar practical environment is advantageous.
- A horticultural background or relevant horticultural qualification is desirable.
- Good knowledge of indoor and outdoor plants, planting media and basic plant handling is desirable.
- Strong practical ability, attention to detail and commitment to a high-quality finish.
- Ability to read and follow layouts, work instructions and project plans.
- Good communication, teamwork and client-facing skills.
- Ability to organise materials, solve practical problems and adapt safely to site conditions.
- A full driving licence is desirable, subject to the requirements of the role.
Working Requirements:
- Able to work safely with plants, planters, compost, water, tools and installation equipment.
- Willing to work across different client locations and, where required, outside standard hours to meet installation schedules.
- Able to work both independently and as part of an installation team.
Please note, this role will involve carrying out physical work, including lifting and carrying.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Implement the procedures set out in the company Health & Safety policy and comply with all client site rules.
- Complete required risk assessments, checks and documentation before and during installation work.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe manual-handling techniques.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, damaged equipment and unsafe conditions immediately to the manager.
- Prevent the use of defective tools or equipment that may create a safety risk.
- Maintain accurate records relating to accidents, training, equipment and Health & Safety checks.
- Attend all training organised by the manager and required to perform the role safely and effectively.
