POSITION: HSU Workstudy Fitness Center - Lifeguard D EPARTMENT: Fitness Center S UPERVISOR TITLE: Assistant Director of Fletcher Center Operations and Aquatics F LSA STATUS: Non-Exempt E XEMPTION: N/A L OCATION: Abilene TARGET HIRE DATE: 3/2/2026 CONTACT INFORMATION: Quinton Hunt at [email protected] or Jess Buford at [email protected]. SUMMARY/SCOPE: To provide a safe and sane environment for all patrons and studentemployees in the Fletcher Fitness Center outdoor pool. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Guard the outdoor facilitieswith constant supervision, using preventive life-guarding techniques.
Enforce all rules fairly (youare responsible for knowing them). Maintain cleanliness of thepool and outdoor areas. Work to create friendlyrelationships with all patrons using the facility.
If there are signs of fecalcontamination, vomit, blood contamination, or dead animals in the pool, clearthe pool and notify the head guard or Assistant Director immediately. Any questions about poolparties should be directed to the Assistant Director. Be sure to maintain currentcertifications.
The UREC Department will offer opportunities to update yourcertifications, but you are ultimately responsible. Constantly monitor the poolchemistry. If the water shows signs of turning green or cloudy contact asupervisor or director immediately.
Maintain hourly water chemistrychecks and records. Monitor pool equipment toensure it is not stolen or broken. If a storm is approaching, takedown umbrellas and put away any loose equipment.
If you cannot see the main drains at thebottom of the pool (due to rain, wind, or water clarity) you must clear thepool. Be sure to check with yoursupervisor or director before leaving from your shift. Attend all staff training andmeetings.
Must complete otherduties as assigned ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Special Skills Wanted Certified Lifeguard throughAmerican Red Cross. If not currently certified, contact Quinton Hunt at [email protected]. The UREC Department will work accordingly toensure you're eligible to attend a training for certification.
