Services include project management and owner representation, estimating and bid preparation, health and safety program development, site inspections, safety support, and operational and strategic consulting. By integrating directly into client operations, Smart Sites enables organizations to function with the effectiveness of a fully developed management team while controlling overhead costs. Role Description The Health and Safety Manager is a full-time hybrid role based in Vaughan, ON, with flexibility for some work from home.
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs for construction and infrastructure clients, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Day-to-day activities include conducting site inspections, performing risk assessments, investigating incidents, and preparing clear reports and recommendations. The Health and Safety Manager will deliver safety training, coach site teams on safe work practices, and support clients in achieving and sustaining compliance with health and safety standards.
The role also involves collaborating with project managers and client leadership to integrate safety into operational planning, support pre-qualification and bid requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement of safety performance across client portfolios. Qualifications Strong foundation in Health & Safety principles, with experience applying them in construction or infrastructure environments. Knowledge of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Occupational Health regulations, including practical experience with risk assessment and control measures.
Experience delivering Safety Training, toolbox talks, and coaching for diverse site teams and stakeholders. Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH or equivalent Canadian health and safety credentials (e.g., CRSP, CHSC) are highly beneficial. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement health and safety programs, policies, and procedures for multiple projects or clients.
Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence safe behaviors at all levels of an organization. Experience leading ISO 45001 & COR2020 audits required.
Proven ability to work independently in a hybrid environment, manage multiple priorities, and travel to client sites as needed. Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field is an asset.
