Job Description

Your new company

This well-established South Australian engineering business specialises in steel fabrication, structural steel, sheet metal, stainless steel, aluminium, machining and custom metalwork. Supporting sectors such as mining, commercial construction, industrial facilities, infrastructure, residential developments, schools and public works, the company delivers a broad mix of fabrication, installation, maintenance, shutdown, detailing, and design-and-construct services. With a strong focus on quality, safety and customer service, the business has built a respected market presence by taking on projects of varying scale and complexity.

Its culture is practical, team-focused and solutions-driven, with an emphasis on reliability, continuous improvement and doing the job properly. This is an environment suited to people who value steady work, hands‑on contribution and being part of a business with long-term industry relationships.

Your new role

This role is responsible for operating HR trucks to safely transport fabricated steel and materials between workshop, sites, and clients, playing a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered on time and to specification. Working closely with fabrication teams, site supervisors, and project staff, the driver will assist with loading and unloading, securing loads correctly, and ensuring all deliveries meet safety and compliance standards. The position contributes directly to the company’s ability to maintain reliable service across construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects, supporting both workshop output and on-site progress.

Candidates should have proven experience driving HR trucks, ideally within construction or structural steel environments, and be comfortable with physically demanding tasks such as climbing on trucks and tying down loads. An HC licence, C6 crane ticket, or rigging/dogman tickets would be highly regarded but are not essential.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong understanding of load restraint and ability to safely secure steel or construction materials
  • Experience working within construction, fabrication, or structural steel environments
  • Physically capable of climbing on trucks and manually handling loads as required
  • Ability to follow site procedures and adhere to strict safety protocols

  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to changing delivery schedules
  • Valid HR driver’s licence as a minimum requirement
  • HC licence highly regarded for increased flexibility across transport needs
  • C6 crane truck licence advantageous for on-site unloading capabilities
  • Dogman or rigging tickets advantageous for supporting site operations

What you'll get in return

  • Competitive hourly rate of $38 per hour full-time plus penalties
  • Consistent 45-hour work weeks providing reliable income and overtime opportunities
  • Opportunity to work across diverse construction and steel projects
  • Exposure to both workshop and site-based operations
  • Supportive, team-oriented environment with experienced trades and supervisors
  • Well-established company with a strong pipeline of ongoing work
  • Opportunity to gain experience with crane trucks and specialised transport
  • Potential to upskill into HC licence, crane operation, or dogging/rigging
  • Work with a business known for quality, reliability, and strong industry relationships
  • Structured and safety-focused workplace with clear processes and expectations
  • Variety in daily tasks with a mix of driving, loading, and site interaction
  • Opportunity to build a long-term career within the steel and construction industry
