Description Position Overview: The High School Physical Education & Health Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering engaging instruction that promotes lifelong fitness, wellness, and healthy decision-making. The ideal candidate fosters a positive and inclusive environment that encourages physical activity, teamwork, personal responsibility, and mental and emotional well-being. This teacher will help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make informed choices about their physical and mental health while meeting Wisconsin Academic Standards for Physical Education and Health.
Key Responsibilities: Design and implement dynamic, standards-aligned PE and Health lessons for high school students Promote physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and sportsmanship through structured physical activities and games Deliver engaging health instruction on topics such as nutrition, mental health, human development, substance abuse prevention, and personal safety Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse physical and cognitive needs of all students Maintain a safe, organized, and respectful learning environment during both physical and classroom-based instruction Model and promote healthy lifestyle habits and attitudes Utilize formative and summative assessments to evaluate student understanding and physical development Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and assessments Communicate regularly with families about student health, participation, and growth Collaborate with school staff to support a school-wide culture of wellness, fitness, and safety Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in PE and health education Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field (required) Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license or eligibility in Physical Education and Health (required) Experience teaching high school students, particularly in urban or high-needs settings (preferred) Strong classroom management skills and ability to lead active, engaging lessons Knowledge of adolescent development and health education best practices Commitment to educational equity and student wellness Preferred Attributes: CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (preferred or willingness to obtain) Demonstrated success in promoting student engagement in physical activity and health awareness A growth mindset and openness to feedback and collaboration Passion for helping students develop confidence, resilience, and lifelong wellness habits
