HGV Technician – Plean, Stirling

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Technician for a specialist commercial vehicle hire company based at its Plean depot, near Stirling.

This is a workshop-based position, with occasional off-site work to complete early-morning inspections or attend breakdowns during the working day. A shared yard-based service van, equipped with tools, is available when off-site support is required.

Our client is a well-established, family-owned business with more than 45 years’ experience in specialist commercial vehicle hire. Operating from locations across the UK, the company supplies vehicles to the utility, civil engineering, municipal and highway-maintenance sectors.

Salary and Package

£48,000 basic salary.

The package also includes:

  • Overtime paid at 1.5×
  • Hours worked while on call paid at the overtime rate
  • Shared yard-based service van with tools for inspections and breakdowns
  • £150 allowance for each weekend on call, 1-in-4 weekend call-out rota

Working Hours

  • 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 7:30am–5:00pm
  • Participation in a 1-in-4 weekend call-out rota, with a £150 allowance; any hours worked while on call are paid at the overtime rate

HGV Technician Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance and inspections on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and complete the necessary repairs.
  • Work on specialist vehicles, including tippers, tipper grabs and asphalt hotboxes.
  • Maintain vehicles ranging from 1.5 to 32 tonnes GVW.
  • Use the shared yard-based service van for occasional early-morning inspections and daytime breakdown support when required.
  • Accurately record work using the R2C workshop management system; training will be provided if required.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs or commercial vehicles
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or an equivalent qualification in heavy vehicle maintenance
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently in the workshop and at customer sites

Desirable

  • Class 2 HGV licence
