Head of Care
Location: National / Home-Based with Travel
Salary: £62,000 - £65,000 + Travel Allowance
Are you an experienced senior care leader with a strong background in multi-site residential services, complex care, safeguarding and quality?
I’m currently supporting an established care and education organisation with the appointment of a Head of Care to provide strategic leadership and oversight of care delivery across a national portfolio.
This is a senior role with responsibility for driving consistently high standards across care quality, safeguarding, clinical governance, compliance and workforce practice, while supporting services caring for children and young people with a range of complex needs.
A key part of the position will also be ensuring that residential care and education work effectively together, creating joined-up pathways and consistency in the support each learner receives.
The Role
As Head of Care, you will provide senior leadership and direction across care services nationally, working closely with operational leaders and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen quality, consistency and outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic leadership and direction for care delivery across multiple services.
- Driving consistently high standards of care, safeguarding, quality and compliance.
- Developing and embedding robust quality assurance frameworks, audits and continuous improvement processes.
- Ensuring services remain inspection-ready and operate in line with relevant CQC and Ofsted requirements.
- Providing senior oversight of safeguarding, risk management and safe care practices.
- Overseeing standards of support for individuals with complex health needs, including epilepsy care, enteral feeding, respiratory support, medication, dysphagia, moving and handling, intimate care and delegated healthcare tasks.
- Working closely with nursing, therapy and external healthcare professionals to ensure strong clinical governance, competency and escalation processes.
- Ensuring safe and effective staffing models are in place, with the appropriate skill mix, training, supervision and deployment.
- Providing oversight around admissions, transitions and compatibility decisions to ensure individual needs can be safely met.
- Supporting the recruitment, development and retention of skilled care teams.
- Using audits, quality data and performance information to identify risk and drive improvements across services.
- Leading the integration between care and education, ensuring strong communication and close working between residential and education teams to create cohesive learner pathways.
- Building strong relationships with families, commissioners, regulators and multidisciplinary professionals.
You will have
- Significant senior leadership experience within residential care, complex care or integrated care services.
- Experience providing leadership or oversight across multiple services or locations.
- Strong knowledge of CQC and Ofsted regulatory frameworks.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, quality assurance, risk management and compliance.
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex health and care needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and delegated healthcare tasks.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, therapy and education professionals.
- Experience developing strong care teams, safe staffing models and competency frameworks.
- A track record of improving quality and embedding consistent standards across multiple services.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at both operational and senior leadership level.
- The flexibility to travel across the UK.
Package
- £62,000 – £65,000 basic salary.
- £3,000 annual car allowance.
