Job Description
The Opportunity WSP has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in Winnipeg. You will assist or lead geotechnical engineering projects throughout Manitoba and the prairies, working in foundations, infrastructure, transportation, slope assessment, stabilization, and mining applications. Responsibilities Conduct all types of geotechnical and geo‑environmental projects, including organizing field investigations, interpreting results, making engineering decisions, and writing technical reports.
Work on or manage projects of various sizes, providing technical input, mentorship, and support to junior staff, and performing analysis and modeling of geotechnical designs. Participate in projects such as slope stability studies, mining projects (closure, tailings dams), foundation investigations, construction oversight, and project management. Collaborate with the materials testing department, supervise and coordinate field programs, prepare technical reports, contribute to proposals, and liaise with clients.
Coordinate with other offices to expand skill sets and provide mentorship opportunities, where local workload permits. Engage in self‑development through training and course attendance. Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil (Geotechnical) or Geological Engineering from an accredited institution.
Postgraduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Geotechnical Engineering is an asset. Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province. 3 to 5+ years of practical engineering experience on a variety of projects; experience with engineering consultants is preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills in English, with proficiency in report and proposal writing.
Strong leadership skills and a genuine desire to mentor and develop teams. Unrestricted Class 5 driver’s licence valid in Manitoba. Commitment to excellent client service and technical excellence.
