Ensure the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints by self and staff, and refer all verbal and written guest complaints to the Area Director.
Ensure guest contact is a priority, using a target goal of 100% table visitation. General Manager teaches and enforces alcohol awareness, building a positive relationship with local authorities. Maintain adequate inventory levels, product preparation and presentation meeting company standards, and actively participate in the community to increase sales and enhance Applebee's awareness.
Implement and execute all incentive contests and educate associates on promotions and new menu offerings. Effectively oversee/schedule associates to meet sales demands. Maintain effective safety and security programs according to company policy and government standards.
Promote and manage restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation. Institute preventative maintenance of all equipment and building, correcting repairs promptly. Advise the Area Director of non-routine situations, communicate with other managers daily through management log and shift change meetings, and comply with all labor laws.
Manage Associate Performance: ensuring quality recruitment and referrals of potential management candidates; adhering to and promoting the A.I.I. training procedures for new managers; maintaining a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation and individual training sessions. Develop an environment of constant development, including informal ongoing reviews and written evaluations every six months. Conduct PIP/ARMS for hourly associates in April and October.
Assess associates’ effectiveness, provide candid and fair feedback, ensure correct staffing levels, utilize SQII and patterned interviews, select new associates based on competency, conduct exit interviews for all terminating associates, emphasize the importance of training, document performance requiring discipline, institute progressive discipline when appropriate, conduct weekly management meetings, safety and expert meetings monthly, ensure compliance with company policies, and conduct timely performance one‑on‑ones. Maintain Controls: ensuring restaurant administrative and accounting duties are properly completed; maintaining and controlling company assets; ensuring compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines; meeting or exceeding operating budgets; managing all service contracts; monitoring capital expenditures; analyzing systems and procedures with the Area Director for continual improvement of earning goals; adhering to all cash handling procedures; performing weekly food and liquor inventories, and preparing accurate daily, weekly and monthly paperwork for the Area Director, VP of Ops, accounting and payroll departments. Development: inspiring cooperation and teamwork through Applebee’s Vision; focusing on guest service; completing all assignments and duties on schedule; demonstrating strong organizational skills; developing goals and action plans for personal and professional growth; providing a role model for managers and associates; exhibiting a professional image; and becoming a subject‑matter expert on all store‑related technology.
Qualifications 3‑5 years of management experience in the restaurant, entertainment, or hospitality industry (casual dining a plus). Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Demonstrated leadership abilities as evaluated by the current General Manager, Area Director and Vice President.
Business acumen to operate a high‑volume business successfully. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Required responsible alcohol service and food safety certifications.
Kitchen Managers must have current alcohol and food certification meeting state requirements. Ability to stand and exert well‑paced mobility for periods of up to 12 hours and lift 25‑50 pounds. Position reports to Area Director.
