Job Description
General Manager, Adult Critical Care Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a senior operational leader to serve as the General Manager of the Adult Critical Care Clinical Service Unit (CSU). The CSU is a key component of our tertiary service, delivering HDU and ICU care across Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital, and supporting Outreach and Rehabilitation teams. Key Responsibilities Provide strong leadership to a high‑performing medical and administrative team.
Senior line management of business and administrative staff, including direct reporting. Act as CSU lead to deliver performance and financial objectives. Lead prioritised areas such as clinical service development, contracting, business cases and Leeds Improvement Method value streams.
Collaborate with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director to shape transformation plans, strategic direction and management priorities. Champion patient‑centred care, embedding safety, quality and patient experience across all activities. Qualifications & Experience Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
Masters level qualifications preferred. Management qualification or postgraduate diploma in management desirable. Proven operational management at a middle/senior level within a complex organisation.
Budgetary management knowledge. Experience developing and utilising professional networks. Operational and business planning, implementation and option appraisal.
Management of multidisciplinary staff across multiple sites. Strategic planning experience and evidence of service innovation. Skills & Behaviours Excellent change‑management and service redesign skills.
Ability to deliver business plans and development cases. Risk appraisal and decision‑making under pressure. Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
Credibility with clinical staff, including senior medical staff. Resilience, flexibility and self‑management. Commitment to values of patient‑centredness, collaboration, fairness, accountability and empowerment.
