Full-Time Research Faculty Position in English Language Teaching and Teacher Education

English Language Teacher Education Program, Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) invites applications for a full-time faculty position beginning in 2027 in its English Language Teacher Education Program.

We seek a scholar with a PhD whose academic work focuses on English language teacher education, English language teaching and learning, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will contribute to both teaching and research, with particular emphasis on disciplinary pedagogy and the preparation of future English language teachers.

Qualifications

1. PhD in English Language Teacher Education, English Language Teaching, or a closely related field.

2. Research experience in English language teaching and learning and/or English language teacher education, including participation in competitively funded research projects and a record of publications in indexed academic journals.

3. University-level teaching experience, with a particular focus on the education of preservice English language teachers.

4. Experience in curriculum design for preservice teacher education is desirable.

Applicants should submit the following materials:

1. Current curriculum vitae, including, at minimum:

Academic degrees and qualifications, clearly identifying the doctoral degree.

Experience in teacher education, specifying areas of expertise and levels of instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Publication record for the past five years, specifying the type of publication (including journal articles, book chapters, books, consulting reports, and other relevant publications), authorship role (including author, co-author, editor, or other), and indexing (including Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO, or other relevant databases).

Research activity for the past three years, specifying research projects completed as principal investigator or co-investigator and the source and type of funding.

2. A sample of scholarly writing.

3. A statement of interest describing the applicant s reasons for applying for the position, their perspective on English language teaching and learning within the context of preservice teacher education, and their current and future research interests.

4. Previous university teaching evaluations, if applicable.

5. Contact information of three professional or academic references

6. Plain (non-certified) copies of academic degrees and diplomas.

In accordance with Universidad Diego Portales regulations governing the search, selection, and appointment of full-time faculty members within the University s regular academic career structure (VRA Resolution No. 350/2012), the selection process will be conducted by a committee composed of:

The Dean of the Faculty of Education, who will chair the committee.

The Director of the English Language Teacher Education Program.

One full-time faculty member appointed by the Faculty Council.

The Selection Committee will:

1. Determine applicants eligibility based on the submitted documents.

2. Review the qualifications of eligible candidates and, using pre-established criteria, identify applicants who will advance to the interview stage.

3. Personally interview shortlisted candidates.

4. Select a candidate for appointment based on the established criteria and the evidence gathered throughout the selection process.

Application Deadline and Submission

Applications will be accepted from September 1st through November 2nd, 2026.

Conditions of Application and Selection

International applicants are welcome.

Incomplete applications, applications received after the deadline, or applications that do not meet the stated eligibility requirements will not be considered.

The Selection Committee will notify applicants by email of acceptance or denial of their application.

The Selection Committee reserves the right to declare the position vacant if candidates, even where they meet the stated requirements, do not reach a minimum expected level of qualification for the position.
