Forward Deployed Engineer

Overview

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Mainloop AI in Barcelona, you will bridge engineering, consulting and product to turn messy processes into working automation. You’ll go onsite to map workflows, design functional architectures, and ship MVPs with AI agents, validating value before handing ownership to product and engineering. You’ll iterate with stakeholders and drive adoption, aiming to prove whether automation should scale.

This role combines hands-on building with business insight in a fast-moving, travel-heavy environment.

• Understand how real processes work by meeting users in person
• Observe stakeholders and validate the actual workflow beyond management descriptions
• Map workflows, pain points, actors, data flows and business impact
• Review existing portfolio before building new solutions
• Write functional architecture for agents/engineers
• Leverage AI coding agents to rapidly prototype
• Build MVPs and test with real users
• Run feedback loops and improve the product
• Quantify benefits and assess automation worth
• Onboard early users and ensure MVP adoption
• Create handover packs for Product Owner and engineering
• Deliver projects from zero to MVP and transition to Tech Lab for scaling

• Consultant instinct with ability to build tangible solutions
• Ability to build web applications across frontend and backend
• Capable of turning ideas into usable outcomes independently
• Experience with AI coding agents and critical review of their output
• Strong skills in understanding needs, asking good questions and uncovering truth in workflows
• Clear writing for functional architecture and handover documents
• Judgment to reuse existing components and avoid unnecessary work
• Ability to quantify impact and say no to non-viable projects
• Willingness to relocate to Barcelona and travel across Europe
• Fluent in English; Spanish helpful
