Role Overview We are an emerging healthcare startup based in Chennai, focused on revolutionising the healthcare sector.
As we scale our operations and strengthen our finance function, we are looking for a highly driven and detail- oriented Chartered Accountant (CA) to join our finance team and work closely with the Founders of the organisation. Responsibilities As the Lead of Finance & Accounts (F&A), you will be entrusted with key responsibilities that directly influence the company’s financial health and growth trajectory.
Your scope will include, but not be limited to: Closure of Books: Ensure timely and accurate closure of the company’s books on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as per internal timelines and audit standards. Financial Statements & Consolidation: Lead the preparation and presentation of financial statements. Support group consolidation and ensure full compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), both Indian and international.
Coordinate with auditors to ensure smooth and timely audits. Management Reporting (MIS): Prepare and review MIS reports to deliver actionable insights and recommendations that support data-driven business decision-making. Stakeholder Management: Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders (finance team, legal, company secretary) and external partners (auditors, consultants, bankers, solicitors) to ensure seamless financial operations with strong governance alignment.
GAAP & Accounting Compliance: Ensure adherence to Indian and global GAAP standards. Implement and maintain strong accounting policies and practices in line with evolving regulatory requirements. Regulatory Compliance: Oversee all direct and indirect tax compliances — including Income Tax, GST, TDS, PF, ESI, PT, and filings under the Companies Act.
Ensure timely returns with full statutory adherence. Process Improvement & Controls: Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in financial systems, processes, and internal controls. Lead the design and implementation of best practices across functions.
Team Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor and guide the finance and accounts team (junior and senior). Cultivate a culture of ownership, collaboration, and performance excellence. Treasury Management: Support treasury operations — including cash flow monitoring, liquidity management, short-term investments, and optimisation of the capital structure.
Manage banking relationships and assist in debt oversight. Forex Management & Accounting: Manage and account for foreign exchange transactions. Monitor currency fluctuations, implement hedging strategies, and ensure accurate recognition of FX gains/losses in accordance with regulatory standards.
External Engagement: Act as the primary liaison for Big 4 auditors, consultants, and bankers. Coordinate due diligence processes, audit, and ensure trusted, long-term external relationships are built and sustained. Ad-Hoc Finance Support: Support various strategic and operational finance projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams, as needed.
Cash Flow Management & Forecasting: Develop, maintain, and monitor 12-month cash flow forecasts, tracking inflows and outflows weekly. Assess liquidity risks and identify opportunities to improve working capital efficiency. Develop proactive strategies to manage cash flow fluctuations, especially in a fast-paced or health tech environment.
Financial Dashboarding & BI-Driven Decision Support: Design and implement automated dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, or equivalent platforms to enable real-time performance tracking. Empower data-driven decision-making by delivering interactive financial insights to business stakeholders across departments. Leverage BI tools to visualise complex financial datasets, perform scenario analysis and drive proactive business planning.
Valuation, Covenant Reporting & Compliance: Assist in company valuation for fundraising, M&A, and internal strategic planning and financial assessments. Manage covenant reporting for debt obligations, ensuring compliance with financing agreements. Ensure adherence to financial regulatory requirements, including sector-specific compliance such as HIPAA, GDPR, and other relevant health tech regulations.
Requirements: Educational Qualifications: Chartered Accountant (CA) with 6 -10 years of post-qualification experience. Background in a Big 4 firm and experience in a high-growth startup environment are preferred. Experience: Solid background in accounting, compliance, and financial reporting, ideally with exposure to startup and/or healthcare sectors.
Knowledge of Regulations: Deep understanding of Indian GAAP, IFRS, Income Tax Act, Companies Act, and indirect tax regulations. Familiarity with international accounting standards and multi-entity structures is an added advantage. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to extract actionable insights from financial data.
Proficiency in Financial Software: Experience with accounting software and ERP systems such as Zoho Books, along with advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with reporting automation tools is a plus. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross- functional teams, external stakeholders, and senior management.
Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to managing financial records and ensuring accuracy in reporting. GAAP Knowledge: Solid understanding of Indian GAAP, with familiarity in IFRS and US GAAP preferred particularly for reporting, consolidations, and cross-border transactions. Tech Proficiency: Proficiency in Power BI, Zoho Books, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
