Job Profile

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking a motivated individual to join the financial reporting team to support and contribute to the management and reporting of the Banks balance sheet and Profit and Loss accounts, including Treasury Finance reporting. This includes completion of financial statements ensuring to be at its most accurate, complete and timely. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting and governance frameworks.

  • Manage end-to-end Record-to-Report processes, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information in compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, ledger adjustments, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Perform detailed General Ledger reviews to ensure transactions are accurately recorded within the appropriate accounting period and are supported by adequate documentation.
  • Prepare suspense account reconciliations and collaborate with account owners to validate transactions, resolve outstanding items, and ensure timely clearance of aged balances.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet substantiation and control reviews, including nostro account reconciliations and monitoring of financial risks.
  • Prepare and support the submission of financial accounting reports to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring delivery within established reporting timelines.
  • Coordinate and prepare quarterly and semi-annual financial reporting under Japanese GAAP and US GAAP, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support responses to internal auditors, external auditors, regulators, and Head Office queries related to financial reporting and accounting treatments.
  • Prepare and submit Half-Yearly Variable Interest Entity (VIE) reporting and other statutory or regulatory disclosures as required.
  • Produce and review daily Profit & Loss (P&L) reports for Global Markets businesses, ensuring accurate representation of business performance.
  • Perform daily reconciliations between Front Office and Back Office systems, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders across Finance, Operations, Technology, and Business units to identify root causes of reconciliation breaks and implement corrective actions to strengthen controls.
  • Maintain and oversee the Banks Fixed Assets and Leased Assets Registers, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
  • Review business cases and applications for system development and capital expenditure projects, advising stakeholders on capitalization versus expense treatment.
  • Monitor fixed asset accounting, asset coding, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure tracking within Oracle and other financial systems.
  • Prepare and submit all related Head Office reporting for fixed assets and lease accounting activities.
  • Oversee key Accounts Payable processes including accruals, invoice validation, withholding tax calculations, markup allocations, and payment support activities.
  • Monitor project-related expenditures against approved budgets and provide financial oversight to ensure appropriate cost recognition and control.
  • Prepare intercompany invoices for services provided across APAC entities, including projects executed on behalf of regional offices.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to track invoicing status, follow up on payments, and ensure timely cash remittances and settlements.
  • Prepare pension-related accounting entries, reconciliations, and reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Support treasury-related accounting controls, including nostro account monitoring and associated balance sheet reviews.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Technology, Tax, and Business stakeholders to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes and controls.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, automation projects, system enhancements, and control framework strengthening activities.
  • Participate in ad hoc finance transformation projects, regulatory initiatives, and management reporting assignments as required.
  • Strong understanding of Record-to-Report (R2R), Financial Control, General Ledger Accounting, Reconciliations, Posting Entries, Financial Reporting, and Accounts Payable processes.
  • Knowledge of Japanese GAAP, US GAAP, Fixed Assets Accounting, Intercompany Accounting, and Regulatory Reporting.
  • Experience with ERP platforms such as Oracle, financial reporting tools, and reconciliation systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, investigate issues, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across business functions.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in financial closing and reporting teams or a big 4 accounting firm practice, preferably with a controls and governance focus.
  • Bachelors / Masters degree and relevant accounting qualifications.

  • The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities.
