Job Description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Field Service Technician I to join a leading wireless communications organization in Columbia, MD. This role is 100% onsite/local field-based and will support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wireless communication systems. The Field Service Technician I is an early-career technical position suited for candidates with hands-on low-voltage, electronics, RF, military communications, or two-way radio experience who are looking to grow into an independent field technician.

Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician I include:

  • Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain two-way radio and wireless communications equipment
  • Assist with programming and configuration of radio systems and equipment
  • Support UHF/VHF and 800/900 MHz communications systems
  • Install and service radios, antennas, repeaters, dispatch consoles, and related equipment
  • Assist with installation and troubleshooting of BDA/DAS systems
  • Perform cable installation, equipment connections, mounting, and system integration
  • Use multimeters, watt meters, TDRs, spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment as trained
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation
  • Troubleshoot basic RF, electronic, networking, and communications system issues
  • Provide professional customer service and communicate technical information clearly
  • Support regional projects and occasional overnight/on-call work as required
  • Develop technical expertise through hands-on training and industry certification programs

Qualifications of the Field Service Technician I include:

  • 3+ years of relevant technical experience preferred, including military communications, electronics, RF, low-voltage installation, telecommunications, or two-way radio
  • Hands-on experience with wireless communications, electronics, cabling, antennas, or related systems
  • Familiarity with UHF/VHF, RF, two-way radio systems, or communications equipment
  • Ability to read basic schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP and networking principles preferred
  • Experience with Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM, Harris, EF Johnson, or other radio manufacturers is a plus
  • BDA/DAS experience is a plus
  • OSHA, NICET, ETA, CET, Motorola, or other technical certifications are highly desirable
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and obtain industry certifications within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to support regional/overnight travel and on-call requirements as needed

Compensation for the Field Service Technician I includes:

  • Hourly Rate: $27.00-$34.00/hour, depending on experience
