Engineering Manager, Search Quality

Overview DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager with a ML background to lead the Search Quality engineering team. This team is responsible for the quality of the overall Search results on DoorDash and the various layers of multi-stage ranking, and multi-modal retrieval and query understanding enabling it. The team is part of the Core Consumer org, which owns the top of the conversion funnel from the initial landing page to checkout across iOS, Android, and Web platforms.

As DoorDash expands into new verticals like Grocery, the challenge of helping consumers easily find what they want grows, creating a large opportunity. You will lead a team of world-class ML engineers redefining the search experience through cutting-edge approaches to query and document understanding, multi-modal and multi-stage ranking, and strategic optimization.

Responsibilities Lead and grow a team of exceptional machine learning engineers delivering end-to-end search quality with state-of-the-art ML approaches. Leverage modern deep learning and LLM-based approaches to drive improvements in query understanding, retrieval, and multi-stage ranking within the DoorDash Search stack. Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to define the roadmap and vision for the team and deliver significant impact.

Encourage innovation, implement cutting-edge technologies, promote outside-the-box thinking and teamwork. Coach and empower engineers to adhere to high engineering standards while delegating effectively. Scale the team by developing internal talent and attracting top external talent.

Qualifications B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent. 7+ years of industry experience. Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience. Broad knowledge of machine learning with a strong ML modeling foundation.

Extensive experience building user-facing products and working directly with product managers. Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with teams across many disciplines. Ability to guide and grow an excellent engineering team in a rapidly changing business environment.

Experience leading successful application of machine learning to ranking and recommendation problems is preferred. Compensation and Benefits The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to location.
