Job Title: Engineering Manager (Engine Systems) Salary: £79,400 - £98,000 depending on skills demonstrated Contract: Full time & permanent Location: Desford, Leicestershire - domestic relocation will be considered Overview As an Engineering Manager within the UK Engine Systems Team in Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products (BCP) division, you will lead a team of engineers delivering engine system technologies aligned to multi‑generation product plans and new product introductions. The role focuses on emissions compliance, product quality, and customer value, working with global teams and suppliers to deliver robust, future‑ready solutions while driving continuous improvement and addressing field quality issues. Responsibilities Lead the development and delivery of engine system technologies in line with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements and customer needs.
Translate multi‑generation product plans and technology strategy into clear, prioritised engineering activity across both short‑ and longer‑term horizons. Guide technical decision‑making, balancing risk, performance, cost, timescales and return on investment. Act as a technical role model, promoting high‑quality engineering delivery while aligning with wider enterprise strategies and investments.
Keep sight of relevant industry, regulatory and technology developments, sharing implications with both technical and commercial stakeholders. Build effective working relationships across product groups, systems engineering, supply management and suppliers. Lead, coach and develop an engineering team, building deep technical capability to support current delivery and future requirements.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, computer science, or another accredited engineering discipline. Extensive Experience: Planning – Tactical & Strategic: Turn long‑term business and technology goals into clear, achievable plans while keeping short‑term delivery on track. Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Make sound, balanced decisions in complex or uncertain situations, weighing technical risk, customer impact, cost and timing.
Technical Excellence: Demonstrate technical credibility and judgement, assess risk, guide decisions and resolve complex engine system issues. Managing People: Lead and develop engineering teams, setting clear expectations, addressing performance gaps, and fostering a positive working environment. Desired Additional Experience: Factor customer needs and market context into technical and product decision‑making to deliver clear value.
Understand how products or technologies move from concept through development, validation and into production, with due attention to quality and risk. Structure and drive complex engineering activity, managing priorities, risks, dependencies and stakeholder expectations. Comfortable working across regions, cultures and functions, adapting communication to build alignment and shared ownership.
