Position Summary With a focus on New Product Introduction, Product Sustaining Engineering, and Process Improvement, the Engineering Manager provides career development, resource management, and project leadership to engineers and other technical team members. The Manager will lead product development processes, contribute to business vision and strategy, and manage the performance of the engineering team under the direction of the Director of Engineering.
Essential Job Functions Provide leadership and strategy to ensure the success of the organization through product design, implementation, and sustaining activities. Develop and manage departmental budget. Ensure products meet customer requirements and specifications.
Oversee all parts of the product design and development process, including innovation, design, analysis, testing, planning, implementation, and problem solving. Communicate and collaborate with all parts of the organization to achieve successful product launches, resolve issues rapidly, and meet business objectives. Manage the Engineering Change Notification system and complete tasks across the organization on time.
Identify and implement improvements to existing processes and methodologies with a focus on continuous improvement. Maintain the product warranty system, including root‑cause analysis, warranty data analysis, mitigation of warranty costs, and compliance with customer warranty requirements. Implement product design enhancements to meet productivity goals.
Lead team performance reviews, goal setting, attainment, and performance management. Provide workload status, schedules, and quality metrics through written reports and presentations. Ensure Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance in the assigned area and maintain effective internal controls.
Develop and monitor processes necessary for legal and ethical compliance. Maintain a safe work environment. Maintain reliable attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience Master’s degree in engineering or business is strongly preferred. Eight or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment covering all phases of engineering from concept to prototype, evaluation, and volume production.
Five or more years of experience providing direct or project leadership for engineers or technically skilled individuals. Three or more years’ experience in automotive vehicle or parts manufacturing is strongly preferred. Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of design input quality tools (Design FMEA, DFA/M, VA/VE) and ROI analysis; strong mathematical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, internet, and CAD/CAM tools; familiarity with manufacturing processes. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present information to internal and external customers. Ability to review, comprehend, and apply written work instructions and procedures in English.
Strong interpersonal, conflict‑resolution, and team‑work skills; ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. Strong technical, troubleshooting, research, organizational, and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Well‑reasoned decision making, high attention to detail, and ability to plan and prioritize projects.
