Engineering Lead – Global Payments Engineering Requisition ID: 265290 Engineering Lead- Global Payments Engineering’ role is to head the engineering team responsible for maintaining mission-critical 24/7 low‑value payment systems across retail, small business and commercial segments. The focus is on executing the payments roadmap, ensuring platform stability, security and reliability, and driving the modernization of real‑time payment services. Responsibilities Lead delivery across a large, cross‑functional engineering team, delivering on a real‑time payments modernization program.

Collaborate with product owners, architects and peer leaders to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and maintain alignment across engineering, product, and architecture stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across payments and adjacent domains (fraud, core banking, channels, operations). Facilitate program‑level planning with architects, senior engineers and peer leaders to define scope, sequencing and delivery commitments.

Identify and manage risks and dependencies, escalating issues early to support timely resolution. Communicate progress, risk and trade‑offs effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Balance speed, quality and risk in a highly regulated environment.

Develop high‑performing engineering teams, fostering accountability, continuous improvement and technical excellence. Coach and mentor engineers and emerging leaders, reinforcing strong delivery practices. Provide hands‑on technical leadership throughout the development lifecycle, from discovery through testing, implementation planning and release.

Lead technical discussions, challenge assumptions and ensure solutions are scalable and maintainable. Partner with architecture and senior technical leaders to align with broader technology direction. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 2+ years leading engineering teams delivering large‑scale technology programs within an enterprise environment. 5+ years working in a software development environment. Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing and production support.

Solid technical foundation with the ability to lead engineering discussions, challenge design decisions and guide teams toward scalable and maintainable solutions. Broad understanding of modern engineering practices, including APIs, microservices, event‑driven architectures and DevOps/CI‑CD principles. Rapid learning of new technologies and domains, exercising sound judgment to guide engineering teams toward practical and effective solutions.

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, simplifying complex concepts and making informed decisions. Preferred Experience Experience in real‑time payments, including instant payment systems such as RTR. Experience in transaction banking or related domains such as payments processing, cash management or core banking.

Hands‑on development experience or technical background in software engineering. Experience leading or contributing to large‑scale, complex technology programs involving multiple teams and stakeholders; bonus if in banking or financial services.
