Engineer - Track Engineering

Overview of Role Provides specialist technical services within an organisational unit by producing designs, associated drawings, information, calculations and enabling improvement of transport system operational performance in line with policies, technical strategies and local procedures asrequired. Key Accountabilities Ensures the safety,functionalityor compliance of low to medium risk newly implemented or altered assets, engineering processes,proceduresor systems. Leads the development and implementation of low complexity engineering solutions within their stated discipline or functional specialism, through the application of defined engineering standards and governance.

Provides internal stakeholders withappropriate challengeand professional advice to ensure the development or delivery of high quality, tested engineering solutions. Undertakes on-site risk-based monitoring and surveillance of works asrequired, resolving and or escalating risks and issues asappropriate. Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, designcodesand legislation applicable to their discipline or functional specialism.

Evaluates,selectsand appliesappropriate solutionstolow risk/value/complexity engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs. Makes technical recommendations for own discipline or functional specialism to customers or senior management to inform technical decision making. Supports continuous improvementthrough the use ofbest practice, innovation, whole life costoptimisationand effective root cause analysis.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Skills Health, Safety & Environment – Supervised Practitioner Whole Life Asset Management – Supervised Practitioner Quality Management – Supervised Practitioner Legislation & Standards – Supervised Practitioner Domain Knowledge - Supervised Practitioner Knowledge Incorporated Engineerrecognised international equivalent orpossessesequivalent knowledge and experience. Basic understanding of the challenges of introducing new assets or changes in practice into the transport system and the necessarytrade-offbetween cost,timeand quality. Basic level knowledge of a relevant engineering discipline or functional specialism.

Basic understanding of the interfaces between own discipline / functional specialism and the wider transport system. Basic understanding of the principles of risk management and value engineering. Basic knowledge of applicable health & safety legislation, industry best practice,standardsand guidance.

Basic knowledge of the TfL Vision, Mayoral Transport Strategy, Businessprioritiesand financial constraints. Experience Experience in several of the following areas: conception, specification, design, construction, testing, commissioning, bringing into use, operation and or disposal of assets,systemsor changes to engineering practice. Experience of managing small multi-disciplinary engineering teams or applying engineering principles to resolve low complexity technical challenges.

Experience of applying professional engineering judgement to supportlow risk/ complexity projects or operational activities. Experience of building relationships with and influencing a wide range of stakeholder at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
