Overview

In this role you support the reliability and safety of London’s bus fleet by performing routine inspections and ongoing servicing. You will work within the Operations team to respond to issues, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs across engines, transmissions, chassis, braking and electrical systems. You’ll collaborate with drivers and operations to keep service running smoothly, prioritise workloads, and uphold health and safety standards.

This is a hands-on position in a high-performing engineering department with scope to impact fleet performance and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and servicing to maintain fleet reliability
  • Perform reactive maintenance and repairs using diagnostic equipment
  • Rectify issues across engines, transmissions, chassis, braking and electrical systems
  • Respond promptly to operational issues and perform necessary repairs
  • Build strong relationships with drivers and operations staff to ensure smooth service
  • Prioritise workload to optimise operational efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements
  • Utilise OEM diagnostic test equipment to interpret fault codes and fix faults
  • Maintain knowledge of DVSA PSV inspection standards and regulations
  • Possibly maintain relationships with one or more bus suppliers (desirable)
Key requirements
  • Experience in the bus, coach, light or HGV mechanical engineering sector
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in vehicle mechanical engineering
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Full and current driving licence
  • Strong IT skills (Outlook and Excel)
  • Experience with OEM diagnostic test equipment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of DVSA PSV inspection standards and regulations
  • Proven ability to work with suppliers (desirable)
