ABOUT THE ROLE
Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit an experienced and innovative Engine Design Engineer to join our Engine Design team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.
Working within our specialist Engine department, you will be responsible for the design, development and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engine components and assemblies. Collaborating closely with Engine Engineers, Engine Builders and Manufacturing teams, you will play a key role in delivering reliable, lightweight and championship-winning powertrain solutions for a range of international motorsport programmes.
The role responsibilities include:

Engine Component Design: Design and develop high-performance engine components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture, ensuring optimum performance, reliability and serviceability.

CAD Development: Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation to support the manufacture and assembly of engine components.

Engineering Analysis: Carry out engineering calculations, design reviews and tolerance studies to validate component performance and functionality.

Continuous Improvement: Develop innovative design solutions to improve engine performance, durability, weight reduction and manufacturability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engine Engineering, Production, Manufacturing, Purchasing teams to ensure successful delivery of engine programmes.

Problem Solving: Investigate design-related issues through structured root cause analysis and implement robust engineering solutions.

Supplier Liaison: Support technical discussions with suppliers and external partners, ensuring components are manufactured to specification and delivered on time.

Project Delivery: Manage design activities across multiple projects, ensuring engineering milestones and programme deadlines are achieved.

Essential Criteria & Skills:

Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Design Experience: Previous experience in mechanical design, ideally within motorsport, automotive or another high-performance engineering environment

CAD Proficiency: Strong experience using 3D CAD software to produce complex mechanical components and assemblies.

Technical Knowledge: Excellent understanding of mechanical principles, manufacturing methods, materials and tolerance analysis.

Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate engineering problems and develop practical, innovative design solutions.

Attention to Detail: High levels of accuracy when producing engineering models, drawings and technical documentation.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Time Management: Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.

IT Literacy: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.

Teamwork & Initiative: A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and contribute within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Experience:

Experience designing components for high-performance internal combustion engines.

Knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
