The Opportunity We are seeking a motivated and target-driven conversion specialist to join Acumen's Japan B2C vertical.
You will be the first human touchpoint for thousands of students who are considering studying in Japan. Your core mission is to reach every lead generated from digital campaigns, education fairs, social media, and partner referrals - assess their intent and eligibility through a structured conversation and seamlessly connect high-potential prospects to a senior counsellor for conversion. This role sits at the critical top-of-funnel stage.
The quality of your calls, your ability to build instant rapport, your persuasion skills, and the accuracy of your CRM records will directly determine how many students successfully begin their Japan journey with Acumen. Role Summary : Key Responsibilities Student Engagement & Conversion Conduct structured phone consultations with prospective students to understand their academic background, study goals, preferred course level and timeline. Provide accurate and up-to-date information Japan universities, language school pathways, programme offerings, scholarship options (including MEXT) and eligibility criteria.
Handle student/parent queries related to admissions processes, application requirements, visa types, and Acumen's policies with clarity and confidence. Build strong rapport with students/parents through empathetic, personalised conversations and ensure consistent follow-ups (call → WhatsApp → email) to keep prospects engaged and moving down the funnel. Apply persuasion and negotiation skills to convert leads at different stages - from cold enquiry through to confirmed counselling appointment.
Admissions Operations & Application Screening Perform initial screening of student profiles, including eligibility checks against programme and visa requirements. Support academic and compliance verification in line with Japanese university requirements and Indian student visa requirements. Process applications and document requests within defined timelines and service-level agreements (SLAs).
Ensure strict adherence to Acumen's admissions protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and compliance standards at all times. Prospect Identification & Counsellor Handoff Qualify leads against a defined framework - academic background, study intent, financial readiness, JLPT/English language status, and application timeline. Categorise leads as hot, warm, or cold and prioritise follow-up cadences accordingly.
Seamlessly transfer qualified prospects to the assigned counsellor with a warm introduction and a concise context brief, ensuring no information is lost in the handoff. Schedule counselling appointments using the shared CRM calendar, ensuring zero drop-offs between the telecalling and counselling stages Coordinate daily with the counselling team to align on pipeline status and priority prospects. Lead Management, CRM & Reporting Manage and track all student leads through the CRM system, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely updates after every interaction.

Lead Squared/Salesforce), contact centre systems, WhatsApp Business, and student record systems effectively. Share daily call logs and weekly performance summaries with the team lead. Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, International Relations, Mass Communication or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in the similar counselling, telesales, or student engagement admissions, or customer engagement role.
Target-oriented and eager to learn conversion-focused counselling. Prior experience in EdTech, overseas education counselling, or in Japan / East Asia space is a significant advantage. Proficiency in MS Excel for reporting and data tracking.
