Job Summary The Electrical Estimator (High and Low Voltage) is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role analyzes project drawings and specifications to determine the full scope of electrical work, including high voltage power distribution and low voltage systems such as data cabling and DAS. The Electrical Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, field teams, vendors, and subcontractors to develop detailed bids that align with project requirements, timelines, and profitability goals.
This position plays a critical role in securing new business and ensuring successful project execution from preconstruction through handoff. On a typical day, the Electrical Estimator reviews construction drawings and specifications to understand project scope, performs detailed material and labor takeoffs, and uses estimating software to build comprehensive cost proposals. They request and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing, identify potential risks or scope gaps, and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure estimates are complete and accurate.
The estimator prepares and submits bid packages, communicates with general contractors or clients during the bidding process, updates cost databases, and supports project handoff meetings when projects are awarded. Job Responsibilities Review construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications to define the full electrical scope of work Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for high and low voltage systems Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates using industry-standard estimating software Request, analyze, and compare vendor and subcontractor pricing for materials and specialty systems Identify scope gaps, design inconsistencies, and potential cost risks within project documents Prepare complete bid packages and submit proposals to general contractors or clients Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to validate scope and pricing Communicate with clients and general contractors to provide clarifications during the bidding process Maintain and update historical cost data and estimating databases Evaluate project opportunities to support profitable and achievable bidding decisions Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure alignment between estimate and field execution Job Requirements Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and commercial construction drawings Experience performing material and labor takeoffs for electrical systems Proficiency in electrical estimating software platforms Knowledge of commercial high voltage systems, power distribution, panels, feeders, and conduit Experience estimating low voltage systems including data cabling and DAS Understanding of local electrical codes and commercial construction standards Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and scope gaps Effective communication and collaboration skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for budgeting and cost analysis Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Education High school diploma or equivalent required Associate or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred Work Experience Experience estimating commercial electrical construction projects such as office buildings, healthcare facilities, and other commercial sites Background working with vendors and suppliers to obtain material pricing Experience preparing and submitting competitive bids and proposals Collaboration experience with project managers, engineers, and field teams Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.) Primary project focus includes commercial new construction environments such as office buildings and healthcare facilities Work may require coordination with field teams and occasional site visits as needed About Equiliem Equiliem believes in empowering success.
